Thoughts on Miriam?

I can’t get [name]Miriam[/name] out of my head! What do you think of the name [name]Miriam[/name]? All thoughts, impressions, opinions, etc are appreciated.

Thanks!

I know a [name]Miriam[/name] who finds her name frumpy and goes by [name]Mimi[/name].
I love it. It’s old-ladyish but also unexpectedly fine. If you’re [name]Christian[/name], bonus points for [name]Miriam[/name], which is religious but subtly so. And [name]Mimi[/name] is really fun.

I love [name]Miriam[/name]!!!

I love the name [name]Miriam[/name]! The meaning “wished for child” is amazing and oh so special. It has a great history, the sister of [name]Moses[/name] who helped lead the Israelites out of [name]Egypt[/name]. It sounds smart and serious, but the nickname [name]Miri[/name] makes it sound a bit more playful.

I used to think it was a frumpy old-lady name, in the same category as [name]Gertrude[/name] and [name]Beulah[/name] but I met a little [name]Miriam[/name] a few years ago and I’ve grown to love it.

[name]Miriam[/name] is so, so, so incredibly fabulous! In fact, if I wasn’t so in love with [name]Margot[/name] it’d be in my top 3! It’s a name I’d use in a heartbeat and I’d absolutely love to meet someone of any age, but especially a child, with the name.

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] so much, I’m not bothered by the fact that it may mean bitter, I read that it also means “she of strong will”

My husband loves [name]Miriam[/name], but I just am not totally sold on it. I like it, but I just can’t see actually using it. I did know a [name]Miriam[/name] in college that went by [name]Mim[/name]. I thought [name]Mim[/name] was a really great nn.

I used to write off [name]Miriam[/name] as a frumpy old lady name too, but something about it I just find so cute now. I like the nickname [name]Miri[/name] for it. I like the name [name]Mariam[/name]/[name]Maryam[/name] even more though.

I love this name. If I could rename myself I would probably pick this. I like [name]Miri[/name] and [name]Mitzi[/name] as nicknames. [name]Miriam[/name] is a cool character in the Bible and the name has a very nice meaning.

I love [name]Miriam[/name]! I find it sadly underused. The nn [name]Mimi[/name] is adorable.

I love [name]Miriam[/name]. I think it is lovely and completely underused. Sounds musical to me.

[name]Miriam[/name] is beautiful.
I think a great nickname would be Mir.

I love, love, [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Miriam[/name]! I would be so excited to meet a little [name]Miriam[/name]. I guess there are a few different possible meanings for [name]Miriam[/name], but the one I fell in love with is “wished for child.” Such a great meaning! [name]Miriam[/name] is definitely underused but not unheard of. It is that perfect middle ground.

I really like it. I’d consider using it for a future child, if it didn’t remind me of an obnoxious roommate I had once upon a time.

[name]Miriam[/name] is a beautiful name. I love it. The SO, however? You should have seen the side-eye the he gave me when I mentioned it! Since I can’t use it, I strongly advocate other people using it! [name]Love[/name] [name]Miriam[/name].

Absolutely love [name]Miriam[/name].

Thanks, everyone! I wasn’t expecting such a positive response. To those who have asked or mentioned it, I do consider the Biblical association to be a plus. I love the suggestion of [name]Miri[/name] for a nickname.

Anyone else?

[name]Maple[/name], you read my mind! She’s been on my mind quite a lot recently. [name]Miriam[/name] is so lovely and so very, very under-appreciated. The biblical reference is also a definite plus (at least in my book). And [name]Miri[/name] is absolutely adorable.

I know two little Miriams (under 2) and they both go by [name]Miri[/name] (they are in different states and don’t know one another). [name]One[/name] is my friend’s daughter and when she announced her name, I thought (just being honest!) “Ew, that is not pretty at all.” (Obviously I did not say that!) But it has really grown on me, helped of course by the little girl’s super adorableness! Plus [name]Miri[/name] is super duper cute as a nn, but could also work as a nn when she gets older. Actually, I just remembered I grew up with a [name]Miriam[/name] also (the older sister of a friend, so she would be in her 40s now). This fits in the “old lady” name category to me – those that people are starting to use more and more now.
