Thoughts on Mitzi?

My husband and I both love [name]Mitzi[/name], but it doesn’t seem like anyone else does.
I keep hearing that it’s a poodles/cats name, or just too cutesy.
Thoughts?

I have positive associations with the name [name]Mitzi[/name] because I know a middle-aged woman who wears it well. She is respectable, educated, and successful in her career, so her name has apparently not held her back as many Nameberries fear cutesy names will do. She is eccentric but not crazy; her home and clothing style is vibrant and colorful, and she is very upbeat and friendly; hence when I hear [name]Mitzi[/name], I picture a vibrant and cheerful person. It is an absolutely adorable, cutesy name, so it works perfectly on a child, but in my experience it works well on an adult too.

Sorry, but I am not a fan. I have a bad personal association with the name (horrid librarian at my school) and it makes me think of mitzvahs, not that that’s a bad thing. Also, I think the biggest drawback is the teasing potential if she has bad skin as a tween/teen. Zitsy [name]Mitzi[/name]? No thanks.

Sorry, but I think of a poodle. But most such associations fall away when there’s a stronger image to replace them (such as a beautiful little child). I wouldn’t use it, but I wouldn’t object to anyone else doing so.

Umm NO!!! GROSS

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I think it’s adorable. But I would probably use it as a family nn, not as a full name.

I love it, super cute. That said, we call my daughter [name]Fritzie[/name], soooooo.

I don’t think it stands on its own too well, even though it has a lovely meaning. A nice compromise might be to go with an M name, and use [name]Mitzi[/name] as a nickname.

I’ve also always been fond of Mimsy, an invented name by [name]Lewis[/name] [name]Carroll[/name], also used in the science fiction short story by [name]Lewis[/name] [name]Padgett[/name] “Mimsy Were the Borogoves,” which eventually became the very cute film, the Last Mimzy.

well it’s our cats name… I think it works better as a nickname, not stand alone.

Some names that can have the nickname [name]Mitzi[/name]:
[name]Millicent[/name]
[name]Melita[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
Merete
[name]Mildred[/name]
[name]Minerva[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name]

It is all [name]Mitzi[/name] [name]Gaynor[/name] and South [name]Pacific[/name] with Rossano Brazi to me. It is a cutesy name. I much prefer [name]Gaynor[/name].

i don’t hate it at all, but i do feel like it will be “cute” forever. i don’t think of a dog like some people said. i think of maybe an adorable anime character or something. you could balance it out with a more serious middle name if she ends up wanting something more “business-like” later in life.

I have an aunt [name]Mitzi[/name] who is very down to earth and not at all cutesy…I like the name because of her, but I prefer it as a nickname. I think it would be adorable on a little girl, it’s a bit dated but I think it would be refreshing on a baby, like [name]Lois[/name] or [name]Agnes[/name].

I like [name]Mitzi[/name] as a nn for [name]Mary[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Millicent[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Martha[/name], [name]Meredith[/name], etc.

Her full name is actually: [name]Francesca[/name] [name]Marlene[/name] de Czanyi von Gerber

So I guess you can take any M name and use [name]Mitzi[/name] as a nickname, it just might not be intuitive…

[name]LOVE[/name] it. But as a nickname & only a nickname. I mean, it’s not horrible & abusive as a full, but I wouldn’t want it to be MY full, I would rather be [name]Millicent[/name] nn [name]Mitzi[/name] or [name]Matilda[/name] nn [name]Mitzi[/name]. [name]How[/name] is [name]Mitzi[/name] crazy/awful yet something like [name]Lola[/name] so commonplace? Or [name]Maisie[/name]?? They are fairly similar to me. [name]Plenty[/name] of great suggestions for full versions. I think [name]Mary[/name] would also work.
[name]Maritza[/name]
[name]Michelle[/name]
[name]Melissa[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]
[name]Marie[/name]
[name]Maria[/name]
[name]Marietta[/name]

It’s an adorable nickname, but I don’t think it’d work well as a given name. You could use something like [name]Miriam[/name], [name]Minerva[/name], [name]Millicent[/name], [name]Michelle[/name], almost name name that begins with an Mi- to get the nickname [name]Mitzi[/name].

I think it is really cute but I wouldn’t be brave enough to use it as a formal fn. If you are though I say go for it, it is adorable! I’ve always had a soft spot for cute nickname names like this, especially [name]Bunny[/name].
