Thoughts on Month, Season, and Word Names?

Hey everyone! I’d love to hear your thoughts on season and month names [name_f][/name_f]- or word names in general. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like them? Are there any you’d personally use or avoid?

[name_f][/name_f]

Names like [name_f]April[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]June[/name_f], and [name_m]August[/name_m] feel pretty well-established, but I’ve also seen some influencers considering names like [name_f]October[/name_f], [name_f]November[/name_f] or [name_f]December[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

Then there are season names [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] are fairly common, and I’ve heard of [name_f]Winter[/name_f] being used too. But I don’t think [name_f]Spring[/name_f] will be catching on anytime soon, lol.

[name_f][/name_f]

This also ties into broader naming trends, like:
[name_f][/name_f]Place names (e.g. [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Brooklyn[/name_f], [name_m]Paris[/name_m], [name_m]Brighton[/name_m], Austin)
[name_f][/name_f]Nature/animal names (e.g. [name_m]River[/name_m], [name_m]Forrest[/name_m], [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], Wren)
[name_f][/name_f]Word/virtue names (e.g. [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_m]True[/name_m], [name_f]Sage[/name_f], Faith)

[name_f][/name_f]

Where do you personally draw the line between a word that works as a name and one that still feels too much like a word? [name_m]Or[/name_m] do you think it’s more of a case-by-case thing?

[name_f][/name_f]

And then there’s the question of sibling sets [name_f][/name_f]- if all the names follow a theme, does that make it better or worse?

[name_f][/name_f]

Personally, I probably wouldn’t choose a name with a strong, non-name meaning for my own kids, but I think some of them are really cute and would happily suggest them to others!

[name_f][/name_f]

If you have a name like this, named your child one, or know someone with one, I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

On month names:
[name_f][/name_f]I like some of them! [name_m]August[/name_m] is my favourite, but I also love [name_f]October[/name_f] (nn Toby?)! [name_f]April[/name_f] is charming too. [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]June[/name_f] feel well established as names while [name_f]November[/name_f] feels usable thanks to nn [name_f]Nova[/name_f], [name_f]Emmi[/name_f], [name_f]Noemi[/name_f], [name_f]Noa[/name_f], [name_f]Ember[/name_f] etc. I can see [name_f]December[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- more so in the middle? But it’s got nn [name_f]Demi[/name_f], [name_f]Dessie[/name_f], Dec, [name_f]Emmi[/name_f], [name_f]Ember[/name_f] etc. that could make it work.
[name_f][/name_f]I’m reading a book with a character called [name_m]January[/name_m] and it’s grown on me [name_f][/name_f]- I quite like it now [name_f][/name_f] :person_facepalming:[name_f][/name_f] [name_f]July[/name_f] is enough like [name_f]Julie[/name_f], [name_m]Jules[/name_m] etc. that I think it could work.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]September[/name_f] is like the old name [name_m]Septimus[/name_m]? But I don’t love it. [name_m]March[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- as a middle, maybe? [name_f]February[/name_f] I find awkward personally.

[name_f][/name_f]

On Seasons:
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Summer[/name_f] and [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] are well into name territory and while [name_f]Winter[/name_f] is more contemporary, it’s fairly popular now. I like [name_f]Winter[/name_f] best [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Spring[/name_f] is a bit too wordy? in multiple ways [name_f][/name_f]- it doesn’t have quite the same ring as the others?

[name_f][/name_f]

On word names in general:

[name_f][/name_f]

I think it’s a name-by-name, case-by-case for me. I like a number of word names but unlike with name-names, I generally want to like (or feel neutral) about the meaning, whereas with name-names I’m less fussed.

[name_f][/name_f]

On sibsets:

[name_f][/name_f]

If the word names are all really bold, I’d rather they not be too matchy (ie. [name_m]Ocean[/name_m], [name_m]Reef[/name_m], and [name_m]Tide[/name_m], [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f], [name_m]Storm[/name_m], and [name_f]Snow[/name_f], [name_f]Dove[/name_f], [name_f]Skylark[/name_f] and Kestrel…) [name_f][/name_f]- otherwise it feels a bit much for my tastes. But a sibset of words wouldn’t bother me [name_f][/name_f]- like [name_f]Opal[/name_f] and [name_f]Tansy[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

Concerning month names I love them however I do feel it’s helpful for the less established choices to have a intuitive nickname for example [name_f]October[/name_f] [name_m]Toby[/name_m] or [name_f]November[/name_f] ‘Ember’ or [name_m]January[/name_m] ‘Janey makes the names feel more usable. Whereas I think [name_f]February[/name_f] for example would be challenging to wear.

[name_f][/name_f]

I love all the season names and think [name_f]Spring[/name_f] would be adorable in the middle spot something like [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] [name_f]Spring[/name_f] or [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] [name_f]Spring[/name_f] or [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_f]Spring[/name_f] would be really sweet.

[name_f][/name_f]

Place names that are established like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] do not feel overtly ‘place name’ like for example [name_m]Dallas[/name_m]. I really like place names especially if you have a personal connection to the place for example for me with [name_m]Rome[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

Absolutely love nature/animal names more so nature names especially floral choices my own daughter is [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] for example and I have on my list [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_m]Rowan[/name_m], [name_m]Forest[/name_m], [name_f]Clover[/name_f] and [name_f]Meadow[/name_f]. I also love names connected to water I have [name_m]Ocean[/name_m], [name_m]Coast[/name_m] & [name_m]River[/name_m] all on my list.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Love[/name_f] virtue names [name_f]Faith[/name_f] & [name_f]Hope[/name_f] are some of my favourite names. I also like word names that feel connected to spirituality like [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] & [name_f]Sunday[/name_f]. With word names I think it’s a case by case basis things like surnames factor into it as well. Regarding sibling set and themes like all place names I think it’s a case by case basis.
