It has such a beautiful meaning!! My great, great grandmother was [name]Serena[/name] [name]Moriah[/name] and I just think it is so stunning…
[name]Just[/name] wondering thoughts???
For me, when I hear [name]Mariah[/name] I can’t help but think of [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name]. It is a pretty name, though and not the worst person to share a name with.
[name]Moriah[/name] isn’t as pretty to my eye as [name]Mariah[/name], but at least it doesn’t have any strong associations…and it still is pretty just not as pretty to me!
I also like [name]Maria[/name]. A little plainer, but so pretty.
Although here on Nameberry, it says that [name]Mariah[/name] and [name]Moriah[/name] have the same meaning, most others sites don’t. Everywhere I’ve seen but here, [name]Mariah[/name] is a form of [name]Mary[/name] and therefore means ‘bitter’, while [name]Moriah[/name] means ‘the [name]Lord[/name] is my teacher.’ Personally, I like [name]Moriah[/name] better but [name]Mariah[/name] is nice too.
I used to love [name]Moriah[/name]. It always reminds me of Mt. [name]Moriah[/name] from the Bible and I love that it reminds me of [name]Moses[/name] and everything God did through him. [name]Mariah[/name] just doesn’t have the same appeal to me but both are nice. It feels a bit dated to me, personally, but it is a sweet choice.
I prefer [name]Moriah[/name], especially since it’s a family name.
I wonder if people would have a problem pronouncing [name]Moriah[/name] properly?
