Thoughts on Names Caspian, Rasmus and Rupert

Please help me decided on a boy name, honest thoughts on the below names:

[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_m]Rasmus[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]

Are these too out there for a European child?

I like [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] very much. Itā€™s a sparkly fantasy prince name.

[name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] is cool too. Very energetic, slightly roguish.

I donā€™t like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]. It feels very stuffy. Like [name_u]Robert[/name_u] said by someone with a bad cold.

Depending on your definition, there are 50-ish countries in Europe, all of which have different naming cultures, and most of which use different languages. So itā€™s impossible to give an answer. Whatā€™s common in Estonia might be ought there in Greece.

I agree with @marysia. What part of Europe are you referring to? [name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] is fairly common in Scandinavian countries, if I recall correctly. [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] seems to be mainly used in [name_u]England[/name_u] and, to a lesser extent, [name_u]Germany[/name_u]. I donā€™t think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is commonly used anywhere in Europe (but I am open to correction).

Based on sound and vibes, I like [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] the most. It brings to mind the [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Sea[/name_u] and the works of C.S. [name_m]Lewis[/name_m].

Thanks!

[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is a wonderful name, just not sure it goes with the sibling names [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]? Thoughts?

[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] ā†’ bright, literary, cool but gentle. Itā€™s adventurous and regal but feels approachable too!

[name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] ā†’ rugged and outdoorsy, but also sort of academic and refined. It has a distinctive sound!

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] ā†’ this has a [name_f]British[/name_f] feel, a kind of ā€˜poshā€™ vibe, gentle but confident?

I donā€™t think these are too out there - Iā€™ve met two little Caspians and a [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] too

[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is my favourite over all, but I enjoy [name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] too

Capsian ā†’ reminds me either of the [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_u]Sea[/name_u] or the C.S. [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] book. I prefer [name_m]Casper[/name_m] . Overall 5.5/10

[name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] , love , love. The absolutely positive meaning , the Scandinavian feel , the distinct but easy to pronounce sound. 10/10

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] ā†’ I can easily imagine it on a baby or older person , but it would be hard for me to imagine on a teenager. It has a [name_f]British[/name_f] vibe to me , I would assume a guy named [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] to be from the UK , even though for example [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Murdoch[/name_m] is American. I give it 4/10

I think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] are perfectly fine for a child born in Western Europe , [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] might raise a few eyebrows unless youā€™re from the UK , but the name is fine also.

I love [name_m]Casper[/name_m] too, but reminds husband of the little [name_m]Ghost[/name_m].

Out of the three, [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is my favorite. I think it works for a boy/man of any age, itā€™s sweet but strong at the same time. And it makes me think of [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Graves[/name_m], which is a big plus

[name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] is nice as well. But Iā€™m Nordic, and to me [name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] is one of those very common Scandinavian names like [name_m]Soren[/name_m] or [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. Nothing wrong with it, and I can imagine in an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking context it might seem refreshing or unexpected, but for me itā€™s a tiny bit boring.

Iā€™m not a fan of [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. Itā€™s a nice name, but it has a very different vibe than [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] or [name_m]Rasmus[/name_m]. It feels more modern.

I donā€™t know what you mean by ā€œEuropeanā€ child, because Europe is a continent with many different cultures. In [name_m]Denmark[/name_m] [name_m]Rasmus[/name_m], for example, wouldnā€™t stand out at all, while it would be unexpected in Spain.

I think all 3 names are handsome and I donā€™t live in any part of Europe but with [name_f]Edith[/name_f] & [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is the winner for me!!!

I have the same mixed feelings about [name_m]Casper[/name_m] too!

These may interest you as well

[name_m]Oswald[/name_m]

For the purpose of the topic Iā€™ll say I like [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] the best.

But

@moonwriteen I have the same issue with some names as you do with [name_m]Rupert[/name_m].

I might find a name that I like, but when it comes to imagery all I see are very young children or old people, not the inbetween stage.

For example, [name_u]Willow[/name_u] suits young children and old ladies well, but tweens, teenagers and young adults, neh.

More likely some names only work on young children, tweens, teenagers and young adults, but not old people. I might post this on the name rants thread.

Back to the topic, [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], to me, feels very handsome and trustworthy. He is protective, honest, and hard to find, but if you discover him, heā€™s someone to hold on to and never let go.

[name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] is very confident, but not as trustworthy as [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. He thinks he knows what heā€™s doing, but can get into difficulties. He has a nice nature, but his confidence and slight lack of skill can be offputting.

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is very snuggly teddy bear and not something an older child would be proud of, especially if his classmates have cool names and [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is sat in a corner sipping his tea quietly while wearing the bow tie he was forced to wear against his will (Iā€™m not saying all kids will hate it). While I personally like snuggly names, [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is a little much.

Here is the problem with putting them into a sibset.

[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] work with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], but not [name_f]Edith[/name_f].
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] works with [name_f]Edith[/name_f], but not [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_m]Rasmus[/name_m], and [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] work as siblings, but not with [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].

So in short, [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is the best option even though it doesnā€™t work.

Ok thanks! What name do you suggest that would work with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Edith[/name_f]?

Iā€™m going to seperate all of my boys combos and list the names that I think work the best.

[name_u]Florian[/name_u]: This ends in the same three letters as [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], yet fits better with his sisters.
[name_m]Leonard[/name_m]: He might be a little too grandfather, but [name_u]Leo[/name_u] is a popular short form (at least I think so)
[name_u]Joseph[/name_u]: He is cute, and set for life. You could find him in the nursery, college and old peopleā€™s home.
[name_m]Chester[/name_m]: Adorable baby, kind old man, and doesnā€™t feel out of place inbetween.
[name_u]Timothy[/name_u]: He is sweet, [name_m]Tim[/name_m] is more mature, and [name_m]Timmy[/name_m] is adorable.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]: Heā€™s as bright as [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], and as strong as [name_f]Edith[/name_f].
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]: He shares similar vibes and sounds with his sisters. [name_m]Abe[/name_m] is a common nickname, and Babybel (If you donā€™t know itā€™s a kind of cheese) is adorable.

Bonus points to [name_u]Florian[/name_u] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] as someone else recommended them before me.

I like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] the best with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Edith[/name_f]! He has the same warm, vintage revival and slightly posh [name_f]British[/name_f] feel to me.

I would go for [name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] first.

Looooove [name_m]Rasmus[/name_m]. I donā€™t hear it about it often but itā€™s on my list and moving upwards toward the top every day! It has a familiar but unexpected, cool but grounded, slightly unconventional yet versatile feel to me (at least to my non-Scandinavian ears).

[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is really cool too, but definitely feels very modern. It has a really insanely pleasing ā€œmouth-feelā€ to me though (if that makes sense, lolā€¦ it just is fun to say!) I feel like someone named [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] canā€™t help but be successful in life.

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m], to my American ears, is a very distinctly [name_f]British[/name_f] name and something I might use to parody a posh [name_f]British[/name_f] person (ā€œEllo, my nameā€™s Rupertā€¦ā€) I think it does work as a name especially across the pond but itā€™s a little bit more a pet name here in [name_u]America[/name_u]? It does seem slightly more stylistically coherent with [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] though.

Where abouts in Europe are you?

Iā€™m in [name_u]England[/name_u] [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is popular choice! [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is sweet, cosy and warm. I like the nickname [name_u]Rue[/name_u] as well. [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] feels very usable in fact my daughter has a [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] in her nursery class. I think [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is a sweet vintage choice that feels very upper crust.

[name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] feels distinctive, magical and ethereal. I know that [name_m]Rasmus[/name_m] is popular in Scandinavian countries but to my [name_f]English[/name_f] ears he feels rare. However names are so different nowadays heā€™d fit in.

[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is my favourite I love the connection to the ocean along with the literacy connections to C S [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] is gorgeous and definitely usable (Iā€™m certain I overheard a [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] at the farm) and the name is lovely!
