I adore [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]—I think it could work today, now that it’s had a little time out of the spotlight. There’s even been an uptick in usage the last couple of years. I imagine Stranger Things might be helping, and of course the various incarnations of [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Drew[/name_u].
I would [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] to meet a little [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]. It’s cute, vintage, serious but bubbly
So sweet name, I say go for it
I love [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and think she’s ready for a revival. My great great Grandmother was named [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], it feels very vintage.
Unlike [name_f]Ida[/name_f] or [name_f]Esther[/name_f], I don’t think [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is ready for a comeback. She’s on the name boat with [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] and [name_f]Heather[/name_f].
One of my favourite ‘old’ names, I love it. It’s still stylish and sweet. The only [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] I know is around 18 now.
It’s so funny how we all have different perceptions about names. I can’t imagine naming a baby [name_f]Ida[/name_f] or [name_f]Esther[/name_f], and I don’t know of any baby named either of those names. All things considered (at least where I am), [name_f]Heather[/name_f], [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] and yes, [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], would be much more “accepted”.
This is a great lesson on “go with what you love” and what you think will best suit your child as an individual, rather than whatever is trendy or acceptable at the moment.
Reminds me of [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and [name_f]Plum[/name_f]! I think it’s pretty cute
[name_f]Fancy[/name_f] [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] anyone? (My girls adore those books!)
I’d always seen [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] as bit of a weak, old fashioned name that made me turn up my nose whenever I heard it.
BUT since then I’ve come across a baby [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] and I love the vintage vibe it gives off. Can definitely work!
Personally, [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] isn’t my cup of tea, but I think it’s wearable for a girl today. It is a rather old-fashioned name, but it has an enduring/timeless quality and is not nearly as dated as names like [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] or [name_f]Brenda[/name_f].
Personally I feel it’s not ready to come back yet. I do not think it’s going to come back for quite some time but that it will. At least in the US.
I wouldn’t consider [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] classic. It spiked in popularity at a specific era, and I associate it very closely with that era. However, I really think you should go for it! It’s such a charming, sweet name, without being either too heavy or too light.
It’s interesting hearing people’s opinions of the vintageness of [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]…for me it’s a generation earlier than [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] & [name_f]Heather[/name_f]. I don’t know any Nancys under the age of 50, & all of the Melissas & Heathers I know are in the late 30s through early 50s. (I’m in upstate NY, if that’s helpful.)
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is such a sweet name. It doesn’t seem at all dated to me!
Yes, I think of [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] as [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] and [name_f]Heather[/name_f]’s mom. I think [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] and [name_f]Heather[/name_f] are even further from coming back than [name_f]Nancy[/name_f].
Honestly, when all’s said and done, once it’s the kid’s name, it’s out there and that’s that. I’ve been surprised to teach kids named [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], [name_f]Barbara[/name_f], [name_f]Sandra[/name_f], [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Shirley[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], and [name_f]Regina[/name_f]… but it name becomes the kid you know rather than the name itself.
If [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] is what you love, she’ll rock it. (And yes, I do see [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] as [name_f]Heather[/name_f] and [name_f]Melissa[/name_f]'s mom.)
