Thoughts on Nia

So I have developed a HUGE crush on this name. It ends in “a” which was one of my “cannots”, but I feel it doesn’t sing-song too much with my fiance’s last name. (Pronounced [name]AH[/name]-vee-lah although English speakers say uh-VEE-lah). And the pronunciation is identical in English and Spanish which is a big deal to me. I am saying nee-ah, but if you think it’s pronounced differently, how do you say it?

What do you think of [name]Nia[/name]? Is it too close to [name]Leah[/name] and [name]Mia[/name]? Does it work on a little Latina baby? [name]Will[/name] it age well?

For the record, not pregnant, or even close… I just have been obsessed with [name]Nia[/name] lately and would like to hear other people’s thoughts on it.

Hmm it sounds a bit too rhymey to me… what about the scottish name neila pronounced (nee-lah) it still sounds abit sing-songy but its not too bad or what about other N names :slight_smile: here are some you could possible choose from ;

[name]Nicolette[/name]
(variations of this name; Nikolett(think this version is hungarian), [name]Nicolette[/name]

[name]Nicoline[/name]
(this one is danish …pronounced nee-CO-leena )

[name]Nessa[/name]

[name]Nele[/name]/[name]Neele[/name]
(these names are german and pronounced NEE-luh )

[name]Nerissa[/name]
(italian…and is pronounced the way it sounds…nuh-RISS-uh)

Nicoleta
(Romanian, pronounced nee-CO-lET-uh)

[name]Nikoleta[/name]
(Bosnian… thinking its pronounced the same as above)

Nasrin
(persian/Iranian… im thinking nazz-REEN)

[name]Nuala[/name] (Scottish/irish… pronouced [name]NEW[/name]-lah)

[name]Nerys[/name] (Welsh…i think its pronounced nair(*like the shaving product XD) ISS, so [nair-ISS])

I think thats all ive got…i hope u find a good name

Also [name]Nia[/name] means champion… to me [name]Nia[/name] is okay but I love international names…and when I found [name]Neila[/name] which is the feminine version of neil which also means champion…i was hooked lolzs… but its up to you …

I like [name]Nia[/name] well enough, but with the last name, it’s too many ee and ahh sounds. What about [name]Naia[/name]? (ny-ah, rhymes with [name]Maia[/name])

I’m not a huge fan of [name]Mia[/name] or [name]Leah[/name] and thus [name]Nia[/name] doesn’t really do it for me either. If your looking for great names that work well in Spanish and English there are a ton (I’m in the same boat just add [name]German[/name] as a third required language). Including [name]Chloe[/name]/[name]Cloe[/name], [name]Ines[/name] (one of my favorites), and [name]Miren[/name].

Wow. I went to school with a [name]Nia[/name] Avila. Sge was kinda popular. Never had any problems with her name. Congrats!

Thanks everyone. Gave me some food for thought.

[name]Miren[/name] is a name I’d want to avoid if I was naming a Hispanic baby (it means “look” in Spanish).

I’d pronounce [name]Nia[/name] the same way as you, NEE-ah, rhyming with [name]Mia[/name]. It rhymes with your last name but doesn’t really sound bad.

I am neutral with [name]Nia[/name], I prefer [name]Mia[/name]. [name]Nia[/name] Avila sounds cute though. [name]Sing[/name]-songy, but is not a huge problem.
I have a friend name [name]Nathania[/name], but she is known only as [name]Nia[/name] by almost everyone. I thought you may want to consider her name.

I love the name [name]Nia[/name]!
