Thoughts on Noa (girl name)

So [name_f]Noa[/name_f] is actually a girl’s name in the bible-- separate from [name_u]Noah[/name_u] as in [name_u]Noah[/name_u]'s ark. She was one of the five daughters of Zelophehad or something, part of the Old Testament.

What do you think of it for a girl’s name? I love it!

There are a lot of unisex names these days, or names that were traditionally male, that now girls have:

  • [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_u]Stevie[/name_u]
  • [name_u]Addison[/name_u], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_u]Emery[/name_u], [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]/[name_u]Lee[/name_u], [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_u]Taylor[/name_u]

I really like [name_f]Noa[/name_f]. It’s simple and clean.

I adore Noa and would love to use her. However, I unfortunately don’t think I could use Noa due to it being seen and wrongly assumed in the Western world as a very common and ‘obvious male-only’ name (confused with Noah) and I wouldn’t want her having to deal with that through her life.

Outside of the biblical associations though, I really like the Japanese meaning of ‘love/affection’ and just really love the simplicity of the name in general.

I really like it. If I ever saw a [name_f]Noa[/name_f] (no h) I would assume its a girls name.

I don’t love it - I find it a bit rough on the ear - but I know someone who has used it and it’s been a hit.

I love [name_f]Noa[/name_f] but [name_u]Noah[/name_u] has been one of the most popular names for boys this past decade. I fear that [name_f]Noa[/name_f] will be lost in the sea of Noahs.

[name_f]Noa[/name_f] is my niece’s name, I adore it. We’re in Australia and [name_u]Noah[/name_u] is obviously very popular for boys but it hasn’t been a problem thus far. It suits my niece perfectly!

I know a [name_f]Noa[/name_f], she’s from Spain. It’s popular there. I love it, it’s very spunky, but teachers do assume she’s a boy a lot

Oh I love [name_f]Noa[/name_f]. Funnily enough, not a fan of [name_u]Noah[/name_u] for a boy, but feel completely differently about [name_f]Noa[/name_f] for a girl! Where I live [name_u]Noah[/name_u] is No. 4 for boys whereas [name_f]Noa[/name_f] is basically unheard of for a girl - so there would be confusion - but maybe that’s not such a bad thing. I think it’s good to challenge people’s gender assumptions.

Since it sounds like [name_u]Noah[/name_u], it’s a No for me. ALso [name_f]Noa[/name_f] just looks like a nn of something else.

From the [name_u]January[/name_u] 19 Jerusalem Post, referencing baby names in [name_m]Israel[/name_m] : “The most popular Jewish name for a girl was [name_f]Noa[/name_f], which has remained one of the most popular names for a girl for the past 16 years. Also among the most popular names: [name_f]Tamar[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f], [name_f]Avigail[/name_f], [name_f]Talia[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Shira[/name_f], [name_f]Ayala[/name_f], [name_u]Yael[/name_u] and [name_f]Sara[/name_f].”

[name_f]Noa[/name_f] is nice, but it reminds me a whole lot of [name_u]Noah[/name_u] which is more known as a boy’s name. For that reason alone, I would personally not pick [name_f]Noa[/name_f].

Yeah but…
People are naming their kids [name_u]Micah[/name_u] and [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] and [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u], traditionally boys names

More:
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_u]Hunter[/name_u]
[name_u]Parker[/name_u]
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u]/[name_u]Rian[/name_u]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_u]Taylor[/name_u]
[name_u]Evan[/name_u]

I could go on. [name_m]How[/name_m] is [name_f]Noa[/name_f]/[name_u]Noah[/name_u] any different?

I don’t care for it, but because it reminds me of [name_m]KOA[/name_m] (Kampgrounds of [name_u]America[/name_u])…IDK if they even still exist, but I remember seeing [name_m]KOA[/name_m] signs everywhere when I was growing up & my family was traveling.

I respect [name_f]Noa[/name_f] a lot (although, most translations of the Bible I’ve seen, Zelophehad’s daughter actually has the “H”! I’m sure it could be different with actual Hebrew characters, but sadly, I don’t know Hebrew, haha. It would come in handy here!), and would be tickled pink to meet a little [name_f]Noa[/name_f], although I have to admit I do prefer [name_u]Noah[/name_u] for a boy or [name_f]Norah[/name_f] for a girl, if I were to pick a similar name! [name_f]Noa[/name_f]'s gorgeous and I love it, but it’s always felt a little more exotic than I’m comfortable with? [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], etc., is more my thing haha. But again, I’d be thrilled to meet one! I think it’s a really special and fantastic name.

I like it for a girl. I’d use a VERY feminine mn with it.
