Thoughts on Nova nn Noe/Noie?

We thought we had a winner with [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], but now DH is over it. He had a sister who passed in a car accident at age 21 that we’ve always considered naming a LO after. We have a strict no family names rule but would break it for his sister. Her name was [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Nova[/name_f]. We don’t care for [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (too weird since they’d have the same last name too) but [name_f]Nova[/name_f] is nice. I babysat a girl named [name_m]Noe[/name_m] (pronounced No-EE) in college and would love to use the nn [name_m]Noe[/name_m]. Is this name too unconventional? [name_m]How[/name_m] should we spell it? [name_m]Noe[/name_m]? Noie? Middle name will be a virtue name (TBD) like our other two girls.

We had also posted about [name_f]India[/name_f] nn [name_f]Indie[/name_f] and I hadn’t realized some of the negative associations with the name. The other names on our list are [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] and [name_u]Arden[/name_u] (I struggle with [name_u]Arden[/name_u]–not a fan of unisex or boy names for girls).

Siblings are [name_f]Violet[/name_f], Cotler, and [name_f]Gemma[/name_f].

I absolutely adore [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. It would work perfectly with your kids names. Honestly, [name_f]Nova[/name_f] reminds me of novacaine. I’m not a fan, but it’s not bad.

I love [name_f]Nova[/name_f], and [name_m]Noe[/name_m] (that is the spelling I would use) would definitely work as a nn

I would definitely use [name_f]Nova[/name_f]. It’s lovely on it’s own and [name_m]Noe[/name_m] (No-EE) is super cute! I love that it’s both a lovely name and that it has so much meaning for your family.

I like [name_f]Nova[/name_f] and I think [name_m]Noe[/name_m]/Noey would be very cute. I like the spelling of [name_m]Noe[/name_m] and I think it would work as No-EE just as [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] does though some people say [name_m]ZO[/name_m] so it could be an issue at times, but Noey would definitely be a bit clearer in pronunciation, such as [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] and and [name_u]Joey[/name_u].

I don’t really like [name_f]Nova[/name_f]… And certainly not as a first name.

What about [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] as a middle.name? [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]?

I love it. And [name_m]Noe[/name_m] is an adorable nickname. Definitely a winner.

[name_f]Nova[/name_f] is great! I like it the best out of all your options, though [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] are lovely too. I love the sound and look of nn [name_m]Noe[/name_m], but I wouldn’t know whether to say “no” or “no-ee” from looking at it. I don’t think that’s a huge problem (how often will the nn be written down?), but Noey would be clearer pronunciation-wise. I don’t really like how Noie looks and I wouldn’t be sure on pronunciation of that either tbh.

Thanks for all the feedback!! I think we are keeping [name_f]Nova[/name_f] nn [name_m]Noe[/name_m] for now!

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] as a fn would be too painful for DH and family. For mn’s we’ve given all our girls a virtue name and would like to continue that trend. All of our kids have a subtle nature first name also so [name_f]Nova[/name_f] actually fits that as well

I like the name [name_m]Noe[/name_m]. It’s the name of a major street/neighborhood in San [name_m]Francisco[/name_m], and pronounced No-ee whenever I’ve seen it (http://noevalleysf.blogspot.com/). I know some folks who’ve named their pets that, but I like it for a person as well. [name_m]Noe[/name_m] [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] could work really nicely too.
