Thoughts On Oliver?

I’m really starting to love it. At first I wasn’t sure about the ‘liver’ in it, but I don’t see/hear it anymore. Then I was talking to my mom about it and she said it sounded like a dogs name  and I did know a family with a golden named [name_u]Ollie[/name_u].

What do you guys think of [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]? Big brother is [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. Their nicknames on the playground would likely be [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]. But they’d likely just as often if not more often be called by their full names. I’m thinking [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].

Opinions? Our other two boys names are [name_m]Declan[/name_m] and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]. DH and I love all three, but our family… Not so much. Which is a bummer!

Anyways- what do you think of [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]?

I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]! it’s a name you don’t hear as often now, which is what makes me love it even more! plus, how great do [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] sound together? I think they make a great pair. and I love [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] paired with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] is what popped into my head when I read title for this thread  I say go with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] if you really love it, at the end of the day you need to be happy with the name you choose

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is a great name! I wouldn’t worry about it being considered a dog’s name. It’s #52 and #2 in [name_f]England[/name_f]! I think that definitely qualifies it a people name. [name_m]Declan[/name_m] and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] fit better with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] stylistically, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it. Any of those three are good options.

I think [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is a lovely name. I actually chose [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] for my rabbit about five years back but we normally just call him [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]. I really like all three names with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] but I do think [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is really cute! Also if you really like [name_m]Declan[/name_m] and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] then your shouldn’t really mind about your family’s opinion of the names, they will get used to them.

I really like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]! It’s handsome and manly without trying too hard, and I think it would make an amazing name for a brother to [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. [name_u]Jem[/name_u] & [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], too cute! I have to disagree with pp, I think that these two names work together nicely. [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] & [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] or [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] & [name_m]Declan[/name_m] feel quite “Irish” to me, which is a much more obvious “style,” but I prefer the rough-and-tumble feel of [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] & [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. So I think any of these three would make fine choices, the styles are just a little different; and I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] the most.

Take heart about the dog name comment! When I told my [name_f]MIL[/name_f] that we were planning to call our daughter nn [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], she said that since her dogs are [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], that she would have to take [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] off her name list for the next dog. Ouch!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], its a great classic name. it is very popular now in the UK, but to be honest its such a nice boy name who cares.

I love it! FI and I have [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]/[name_f]Olive[/name_f] on our list. We eventually decided that we loved [name_f]Olive[/name_f] just a little bit more, so we took [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] off of our list, but I keep looking back to it. If it makes a difference, our number one boy name is [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], so if we had two boys their names would be [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Hank[/name_m] and [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]–different than [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], but kind of has the same feel.

Thanks everyone!

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is definitely our first choice right now. [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] is a close second. The only reason it’s second is because it seems so short with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. [name_m]Declan[/name_m] is third, mostly because every single person in our family hates it. :frowning:

I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]! It would probably be my #1 name if only SO liked it. I think it’s very classically handsome and charming.

I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], it’s one of my favourite names. I love that it means “olive tree” and by extension I see it as meaning “peace”, since extending an olive branch is a symbol of peace. I think the nickname [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is just darling and with a big brother named [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], nicknamed [name_u]Jem[/name_u], it’s perfect.

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is s very nice name with a great nickname [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]!!!

I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. It’s one of the only names that I can hear over and over and not get tired of it. I think it’s so handsome and [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is adorable.

I have an [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], he goes by [name_u]Olly[/name_u] quite a bit.

So needless to say, I absolutely love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], and it fits very well with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is swoon-worthy!

I like the name [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], not the nn [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] that goes with it. It just seems too “cute”.

Have you considered [name_m]Olivier[/name_m]?

We considered it with our firstborn, but now that we have a [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], [name_m]Olivier[/name_m] seems a little too ‘ethnic’ in comparison, for lack of a better term.

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is one of my favorites for a boy, and despite its popularity I think it’s a great choice!

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is great! I like it the best out of all of your options (though I REALLY like [name_m]Declan[/name_m], too!). I think [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] or [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is absolutely darling for brothers! They sound like fun, adventurous little boys
