Thoughts on Ollie?

This actually for my friend, not me. Her and her husband wanted to pick a unisex for name for their 4th baby, so they settled on [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] for a girl and [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] [name_u]Elias[/name_u] for a boy. The recently found out it’s a girl. Older brothers will be [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]. [name_m]General[/name_m] thoughts on [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]?

I think it’s a cute unisex nickname for [name_f]Olive[/name_f]/[name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] or [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], but I do not think it stands well alone. [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is a cute little girl and a fun senior citizen, but the potential 40-year-old lawyer in the middle may prefer to go by something with more substance.

[name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] makes for an adorable sibset, while maintaining the unisex feel. While [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is somewhat feminine, it lacks the frill of [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] or the distinctiveness of [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. I think it works.

[name_f]Ann[/name_f] is fine. I’m not a fan of the spelling (I prefer [name_f]Anne[/name_f]) or having vowel names back-to-back, but I assume it is an honor name.

I agree with the pp. I know a teen whose name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], and she often goes by [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]. It’s a super cute nickname that works for her, but I personally wouldn’t give it as a standalone.

I second [name_f]Olive[/name_f], actually, despite not being a huge fan. With those sibs, it’d be cute as heck

When I say [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] out loud it’s like [name_f]Holly[/name_f] without the H, so really not that bad, actually kind of cute. I don’t think it stands alone very well, but doesn’t go great with the sibset. [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is actually a bit too feminine for me so I’m glad to see it on a girl.

[name_u]Ollie[/name_u] as a full name is pretty bad. I wouldn’t want [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] on my business cards.

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] is a great choice.

I think [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is cute when she’s a child, but too cute later in life as an adult. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Olive[/name_f], another option could be [name_f]Olwen[/name_f] with nn [name_u]Ollie[/name_u].

For me, it kind of depends on how they’re pronouncing it. If it’s pronounced [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-lee (same vowel sound as [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]) it sounds boyish to me because I automatically think of it as a nn for [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. However, I know a woman who goes by [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] and pronounces it Oh-lee, so that sounds more feminine to me. I also tend to agree with previous posters in that [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] doesn’t seem to quite work as a full name on it’s own. It sounds like a nickname.

I personally think [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] on its own is very useable and wearable at any age. Many parents are choosing nickname type names for birth certificates: [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], Tillly, [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], [name_f]Gertie[/name_f], etc.
It’s quite cute and spunky! I really like it! [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] is lovely. What matters is going with the name you love!
I do have to add I adore [name_f]Olive[/name_f] with the NN [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]

I actually know a baby girl (20 months) named [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], full name. It definitely sounds nickname to me. And it’s kinda hard to say. My daughter is [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and I’ve tried to call her [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] a few times but it just doesn’t roll off the tongue. I think maybe that’s just me?

When all is said and done, in this day and age, with all the other names out there being used, I do think it would work!

Sorry, I’m not a fan at all. I mostly quite like nicknamey names, but this one is too insubstantial for me.
I’m not keen on [name_f]Olive[/name_f] either. There is a Hebrew name [name_f]Orli[/name_f] meaning light which I like more.
Options for [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] nickname:

[name_f]Olwen[/name_f] (love this)
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Odele[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlanda[/name_f]
[name_f]Odile[/name_f]

I like it as a nickname for either gender, but not as a standalone. I have never met an [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] who was just [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], so I’m not used to it, but I don’t really like it by itself regardless. I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] nn [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] would be awesome with her siblings’ names.
