For the last few weeks I’ve been swaying towards [name]Arthur[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] but I haven’t quite found the courage to select it as THE name! My reservations are:
Is [name]Arthur[/name] a little on the nerdy/geeky side? Looking at our gene pool there’s a fair chance our boy will be skinny (bordering on scrawny) and good at maths…
I haven’t found a NN I like, I’m not an [name]Art[/name] or [name]Artie[/name] fan… they’re a little too close to ‘farty arty’
Our surname is [name]Seaton[/name] & literary buffs may know [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Seaton[/name] is a character from ‘[name]Saturday[/name] [name]Night[/name], [name]Sunday[/name] [name]Morning[/name]’ and by all accounts was not a nice man.
I’d really appreciate your thoughts and any ideas on alternatives I should consider. We like traditional names, I’m keen on 2 mn’s and it would need to go with two older sisters [name]Maisie[/name] & [name]Matilda[/name] ([name]Tilly[/name]). Oh and for that reason - no more ‘m’ names!
I love [name]Arthur[/name] but maybe it’s not ideal for a first name if he would be another [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Seaton[/name]. From your list, I think [name]Edward[/name] [name]Seaton[/name] nn [name]Ned[/name] would be my favourite. [name]William[/name] is a fine name but it was No# 3 in the US last year (that’s 17,151 boys). Another downer is that [name]Will[/name]/[name]Bill[/name] is too similar to [name]Tilly[/name]'s name. A distant second choice would be [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Seaton[/name] but this name seems so formal compared to [name]Maisie[/name]. Have you considered [name]Alfred[/name] (nn [name]Alfie[/name]/[name]Freddie[/name]) or [name]Albert[/name] (nn [name]Bertie[/name]) as alternatives to [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Frederick[/name]? Here are some other suggestions (unfortunately names ending in “n” and “s” are out).
First of all, I [name]LOVE[/name] your name choices! All of them go with your daughters’ names
I think [name]Arthur[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] is brilliant although I would use [name]William[/name] as a FN, but as it’s my all time favourite name I’m slightly biased
As for it being nerdy- I don’t think it is. It’s more popular these days, like [name]Henry[/name], so it’s becoming cool rather than geeky. And I know a seriously cool [name]Arthur[/name] who’s never had any trouble! I don’t think [name]Arthur[/name] needs a nn, it’s fine on its own. With the literary reference- I’ve haven’t heard of [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Seaton[/name]. If it’s not a really well known book I wouldn’t worry so much.
If the lack of nn, ‘nerdy’ association and link to [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Seaton[/name] are too off-putting, I would go with [name]William[/name]. It’s classic, timeless and so handsome, plus it has a range of nns- [name]Will[/name], [name]Billy[/name], [name]Liam[/name]…
For alternatives I suggest: [name]Henry[/name], [name]Richard[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Peter[/name], [name]David[/name] and [name]Thomas[/name].
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] sounds handsome and distinguished. [name]How[/name] about [name]Theodore[/name]? [name]Maisie[/name], [name]Tilly[/name] and [name]Theo[/name] sound very cute together.
I think [name]Arthur[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] is very handsome! I love it!!!
I think [name]Arthur[/name] sounds regal and handsome, not really nerdy ([name]Artie[/name] seems nerdy) I saw one member on here suggest [name]Teddy[/name] as a nickname for [name]Arthur[/name] because of the meaning of [name]Arthur[/name] having to do with bears.
[name]Arthur[/name], [name]William[/name], [name]Frederick[/name], and [name]Edward[/name] are all handsome, classic choices. You can’t go wrong with any of them.
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] is regal and distinguished. I don’t find [name]Arthur[/name] nerdy at all, nor do I see why it needs a nickname. It’s only two syllables. Perhaps you could use [name]Bear[/name] if you wanted one? According to Behind the Name, [name]Arthur[/name] is derived from the Celtic word “artos” which means “bear.”
I’m not familiar with the [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Seaton[/name] reference. Unless it’s a reference everyone will know, like [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name], I don’t think it’s worth sweating over.
[name]Maisie[/name], [name]Tilly[/name], and [name]Freddie[/name] would be adorable if you aren’t sold on [name]Arthur[/name].
I like [name]Arthur[/name] because of [name]Arthur[/name] Weasley and i think it goes well with maisie and matilda. my second pic would be william. or maybe theodore, hugo, oscar, nicholas, carlisle, george, henry?
I really love [name]Arthur[/name], and [name]Arthur[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] is so classic, how can you go wrong? I don’t actually see [name]Arthur[/name] as being too nerdy- not only does it fit in with a lot of stylish names (like [name]Henry[/name] or [name]Oliver[/name]), it has some great namesakes- like [name]King[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] or [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Conan[/name] [name]Doyle[/name]. My only reservation is the full name [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Seaton[/name], but I don’t know how much that would register with most people…it might not really matter, in the long run.
Of your other names, though, I love [name]Edward[/name] ([name]Ned[/name] particularly as a nn) and [name]Frederick[/name] (love [name]Freddie[/name], too)- [name]William[/name] seems a bit boring to me, compared with [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Ned[/name], or [name]Freddie[/name].
Of your choices my favorite is [name]Edward[/name] (although I think they are all nice!) with a second choice of [name]Frederick[/name]. The only one I would avoid using in your case is [name]William[/name] as some of its iterations can be a bit close to your daughter’s name.
All your names would be excellent. We prefer [name]Arthur[/name] (great name-no overused-and your preference) and [name]Frederick[/name] (very strong name and very classic). Best wishes-and we love your girls names-especially [name]Maisie[/name].
I’d be torn between [name]Arthur[/name] - which sounds great with [name]Maisie[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name], but I’m not keen on nn [name]Art[/name]/ie - and an [name]Ed[/name]- name (prefer [name]Edmund[/name] to [name]Edward[/name], but both go well with the girls) 'cos I love nn [name]Ned[/name]. Although I also love [name]Fred[/name], I have a weird dislike of any longer versions, even [name]Freddie[/name]!
From others’ suggestions, I love [name]Alfie[/name], [name]Bertie[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Theo[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name]. All these names, incl. the girls’, are definitely to my taste so I think you’re going to have a winner and a matching sibset - with the exception of [name]William[/name] which I just find soooooo dull! Sorry!
I like [name]Edward[/name] with the nickname [name]Arthur[/name].
Also, I love [name]Arthur[/name]. I am not familiar with [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Seaton[/name] at all. ([name]Do[/name] you live in the US? I noticed it was a British novel so maybe it might be more familiar there? I am actually an English major, and none of my professors ever mentioned the novel. It did not show up in the school-assigned literary canon.)
