Thoughts on Pantea

[name_m]HI[/name_m]!

Wondering what you guys think of the name Pantea…pronounced pan-tay-uh. See the history I found on the name below.

Someone I work with is named Pani (pronounced pawn-ee) and I found out her full name is Panteha. I thought what a beautiful name so I did some research. I think she may pronounce her full name as Pawn-tee-uh but I like the alternate spelling Pantea and I like it better as pan-tay-uh…maybe nickname [name_f]Tea[/name_f] like [name_f]Tea[/name_f] [name_u]Leoni[/name_u].

From what I can tell Pantea and Panteha are both legitimate spellings. I Googled and did a Facebook search for the name, and there are people out there with the name but couldn’t find any data on the popularity of the name so it must not be ranked at all in the US. I love the sound, the meaning and I think it could be a great alternate to [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] which I love but am hesitant about keeping on my list due to the obvious jewelry and music service associations.

So have any of you ever heard of the name Pantea or Panteha?

550 B.C.E. - Pantea Arteshbod was one of the all time greatest Persian commanders during the reign of [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] the Great (559 - 529 B.C.E.). She was the wife of [name_m]General[/name_m] Aryasb (Achaemenid Arteshbod). She played an important role in keeping law & order in Babylonia after the conquest of the [name_u]Neo[/name_u]-Babylonian Empire in 547 B.C.E. by [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] the Great. Commander Pantea truly was an important and sensitive military commander whose presence on the ancient battlefield made a difference to the outcome of the battle and played a part in building up the tapestry of ancient military Achievement. Pantea and [name_m]General[/name_m] Aryasb were the commanders of the elite force of Persian soldiers who performed the dual roles of both Imperial Guard and standing army during the Persian Empire’s expansion. They formed the elite core of the Persian army in times of war and the royal guard in times of peace in Persian Achaemenid Empire. In Persian lore, Pantea was the most beautiful and toughest woman in all of [name_f]Asia[/name_f] and kept her face covered during battle to prevent men from falling in love with her. The name“Pantea” means: “Strong and immortal.” in Persian and “all the gods” or “all the flowers” in Greek.

Regardless of the history, I think it would remind most Americans of Panteen, as in the shampoo.

Hmm, hadn’t even thought of that!

My first thought was “panties,” so I’d say it’s a no-go for that reason. Personally, I wouldn’t want “pant” anywhere in my name. Shame, because it sounds like it has an interesting history, and I like the -tea/-teha part!

My second thought was “Pangaea,” which is actually kind of cool.

bump bump… any other thoughts/opinions?

I have to agree - my first thought was ‘pantie’? So I wouldn’t use it - even though it does have a nice sound.
Sorry.

I agree with the others. My first thought when seeing the name was “pantie”. Sadly, I would foresee a lot of teasing in school. …

Yeah, I think of pants and panties too. It has a nice sound, but I’m not sure it’s the best. It did remind me of [name_f]Panthea[/name_f], which is similar. Not quite the same sound, but the pant problem isn’t as obvious out loud.

My first thought was that is was Pangaea, the large continent from millions of years ago before the 7 continients split, which is a cool science connection. I think its okay, the pronunciation may have some issues being [name_m]Pan[/name_m]-tee-a instead of [name_m]Pan[/name_m]-tay-a

I thought of the band Pantera, haha. At least it’s not panties?

My first thoughts were of Pangea (the land mass) and Pantene (the beauty line). Also, I don’t like how the word “pant” is in the name. Sorry :frowning:

I know a girl with that name but she spells it Pante-a, hasn’t really seemed to cause her any bother.

I guess I’m alone, but I like it. I didn’t think “panties” or “Pantene.” The ay-uh ending is strong so at least for me it didn’t lend itself to those associations.

@theblueofnoon - thank goodness I’m not alone!!! Lol

Thank you ALL for the feedback. I have a co-worker with this name, I don’t talk to her often and she goes by Pani, I should probably just approach her and get some insight as to her experiences with her name but since I only know her by her nickname, I don’t want her to think I’m creepy stalking her full name. Anyhow, it is clear that the ‘Pant’ sends most peoples mind to panting, panties, or Pantene…none of which are ideal associations. LOL

Still love the name but so happy to have gotten some more replies. [name_u]Love[/name_u] y’all.

All i can think.of is panties

Yeah, sorry, I get that it’s pretty and interesting, but I also saw panties at first. I think because the tea ending could be pronounced either way (either like [name_f]Tea[/name_f] [name_u]Leoni[/name_u] or like the beverage), the panties connection is especially strong. I also thought of Pangea, but that’s a neutral connotation.

It just makes me think “panties” too, unfortunately! I agree with others that the ‘Pant’ just stands out. It’s pretty in concept and sound though! Could [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] work as an alternative?

[name_f]Tea[/name_f] like the beverage…yeah, that kinda makes sense b/c I just wasn’t seeing the panties connection.

[name_f]Anthea[/name_f] is nice…I love the definition, I like that it’s Greek in origin and has a mythological connection. And it has a vintage feel. Not my favorite but does hit a lot of high notes. Thanks!

What about [name_f]Panthea[/name_f]?
