Thoughts on Prudence?

I just came upon [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] and it struck a chord. I love the nickname [name_f]Pru[/name_f] or [name_f]Prue[/name_f]. So cute. Is it too clunky and old-fashioned? Our other girls are [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] & Magdalenne.

Thanks!!

I’m torn on this one  I love virtue names and [name_f]Pru[/name_f]/[name_f]Prue[/name_f] is really cute. I don’t consider [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] to be clunky. For me, I’ve always been conservative and have been called a prude…so that’s where my hesitation for this name comes (though frankly, I’d rather be called a prude than the opposite). [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] also for some strange reason reminds me of prunes, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it just kinda does.

[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] would fit well with your other daughters’ names. What does your SO think? Also, maybe running it by a close friend would help as well, to get a real-life reaction to it.

I like virtue names on the whole, but my husband doesn’t so I have no experience with using one! I wouldn’t call [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] clunky per se, but I’m not keen on the whole sound of it said allowed. But I love [name_f]Pru[/name_f]/[name_f]Prue[/name_f] and I think it could fit both a spunky/wild or doll-like personality well.

ETA: I do think Prudence is in similar style as your other girls and would fit into a sibset  Just my thoughts!

I was just about to run it by DH – but wanted to do a vetting here first! He’s real quick on the draw when it comes to vetoes, so I thought I’d stew on it for a while before giving him the opportunity to just nix it.

I think [name_f]Prue[/name_f] is a cute nickname but I hesitate because of the possible nicknames [name_f]Prune[/name_f] and Prude. And of course, there’s the “Dear [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]” association.

I love the name [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] nn [name_f]Prue[/name_f]. It reminds me of charmed ([name_f]Prue[/name_f] was the oldest sister for the first 3 series before she left the show). I think its the correct balance of rare but easy to pronounce and classic sounding but not common. I also think it goes with your older daughters names.
I think the suggestion to run it by a close friend as well is a good idea for any name (after you and your hubs have agreed :)). People on the forums come from a wide variety of backgrounds from places all around the world.
In the ‘mum and baby’ circles I’m in [name_u]London[/name_u] I think [name_f]Prue[/name_f] would work very well however that may not be the case if you live elsewhere in the world.

I think [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] is sweet. It makes me think of the Beatles song Dear [name_f]Prudence[/name_f].

[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] feels off with off with your girls to me but that isn’t a deal breaker as they aren’t super matchy to begin with.

Side note on the nn [name_f]Pru[/name_f]. My maiden name was [name_m]Pruitt[/name_m] and I got called [name_f]Pru[/name_f] a bit in high school and was never a fan of it.

Since you like [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] you might like [name_f]Temperance[/name_f] which I think fits better with your girls.

Ooh, sarab.cook - I love [name_f]Temperance[/name_f]! I forgot about that one! I’ll have to see what DH thinks…

I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] and I don’t care for it with your other girl’s names (which are gorgeous, by the way!!).

Eeeh…it’s not my thing, really. I find [name_f]Temperance[/name_f] far more appealing and easier to wear. The prune and prude nicknames really put me off, even though on its face, prudence is a really good aspirational choice.

I love [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]! It is a little more old fashioned than other names makings comeback, but I’d be so excited to see it on a little girl

Honestly, I think of [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] and her potty from a classic children’s book about a girl who makes a poopoo in her potty after sitting and sitting and sitting and sitting and sitting… Sorry.

I love the name [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], but I’m bias as one of my lifelong best friends is called this - [name_f]Pru[/name_f] for short. It’s a beautiful name and she always gets really positive comments and reactions to her name!

I hope it doesn’t get too popular, I love it but popularity is a turn off.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]. The song Dear [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] is awesome. It’s such an adorable name that ages well, too. It’s underused for how versatile it is, imo. Been on my list for years.

I agree that [name_f]Temperance[/name_f] is a better, more fashionable choice. I think it may be awhile for [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], if the Prude part doesn’t continue to keep people away. Personally I really can’t see the appeal.

[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] is just cruel when her sisters have such exquisite names.

I love it- sweet, elegant, a little bit funky! I know the sweetest little girl named [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], nn [name_f]Prue[/name_f], and I think it is so lovely, and prudence is such a wonderful quality. Dear [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] is also one of my favourite songs, which is a big bonus in my eyes.

I’m not a fan of [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], [name_f]Temperance[/name_f], [name_f]Patience[/name_f] - They sound like you are hoping for a very staid, old fashioned type of girl. [name_f]Honor[/name_f] & [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] are some other possibilities

I dislike virtue names and I would strongly recommend against [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]. I also think [name_f]Prudence[/name_f] does not go well with [name_f]Juliette[/name_f].
