Thoughts on Regina?

We’re considering using [name]Regina[/name] as a middle name for [name]Grace[/name] (for a potential daughter as we’re not expecting yet just TTC).

I like how the name [name]Grace[/name] [name]Regina[/name] flows with our last name (Tys0n). The main draw for us is the [name]Marian[/name] character of the name and that it makes her name a bit more distinctive but is still a classic name (I was surprised to see that it’s always been in the top 1000). But [name]Regina[/name] on it’s own has never been a favorite. I hate my middle name even though I’m named after my grandmother and I want her to like her’s.

[name]Do[/name] you think she’d like [name]Regina[/name] as a middle name? Would you?

The other candidate is [name]Grace[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] Tys0n.

It’s okay, I’m not really a fan but it’s not a bad name.

I wouldn’t like [name]Regina[/name] as a middle name personally, but the meaning of “[name]Queen[/name]” I guess would win me over in the end.
I’d rather [name]Elizabeth[/name], but [name]Grace[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] lacks oomph. There’s nothing special about the combo, imo. [name]Grace[/name] [name]Regina[/name] has more of that, but I like [name]Regina[/name] less than [name]Elizabeth[/name].

See that’s how dh and I feel as well. That’s why I’m not sure which way to go.

I really love [name]Grace[/name] [name]Regina[/name]!

I don’t know if she would love [name]Regina[/name] or not… but I think she’d grow to appreciate it. I’ve always hated my MN ([name]Marie[/name]), but I’ve grown to appreciate that [name]Ashley[/name] [name]Marie[/name] suits me. While I wish [name]Marie[/name] would honor family (which it sounds like [name]Regina[/name] wouldn’t), I would have at least been happy to know my parents picked something that had more meaning than “it was the only name that sounded good with [name]Ashley[/name]”. Which it sounds like [name]Regina[/name] has that meaning, so I would be happy about that even if I didn’t love [name]Regina[/name] personally. Besides, I love [name]Grace[/name] [name]Regina[/name]!

I have to say, though, I do prefer [name]Grace[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. It’s timeless and girly and beautiful, and I love it with all your other children.

The only other option that’s out there is [name]Grace[/name] [name]Virginia[/name]. DH said he liked [name]Virginia[/name] less than [name]Regina[/name] but I’m sure on a middle name he’d give. I think the virgin part of [name]Virginia[/name] is a little tough. I’m pretty sure dh didn’t like it b/c he see’s it as a state name.

[name]Grace[/name] [name]Regina[/name] is gorgeous! It’s very classy and pretty. I know a [name]Regina[/name] (19 years old, I believe) who can pull off that name. As a middle name, it would be no problem. [name]Grace[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is also pretty, but not nearly as interesting.

I’m not the biggest fan; but it always reminds me of Mean Girls!

[name]Reina[/name]/[name]Raina[/name], which is a related contraction of [name]Regina[/name], and used in a number of European languages, is a softer sound to me and prettier than [name]Regina[/name]. But [name]Regina[/name] is very classic.

I like [name]Elizabeth[/name] but [name]Regina[/name] is far more interesting and distinctive.

I love [name]Grace[/name] [name]Regina[/name] Feels regal. I agree that while [name]Grace[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is pretty it lacks oomph… two pretty names commonly used as middle names.

I like it. I prefer it to [name]Elizabeth[/name]. [name]May[/name] I be so bold as to suggest other [name]Marian[/name] names to consider? I love [name]Marian[/name] names myself.

[name]Grace[/name] [name]Marian[/name]
[name]Grace[/name] [name]Marigold[/name]
[name]Grace[/name] [name]Miriam[/name]

Although [name]Regina[/name] is a very nice name, coming from [name]Canada[/name] where we have a city called “[name]Regina[/name],” you constantly hear the snickers and jokes ([name]Kelly[/name] Ripa jokes about it all the time!) on how it sounds so close to the female private part. :0) I don’t know if you have thought about that or maybe because it’s a middle name most kids won’t even know it and be able to joke about it, but I just thought I would point it out in case it was something you hadn’t considered.

While I love the name [name]Regina[/name], I don’t care for the flow of [name]Grace[/name] [name]Regina[/name]. Maybe [name]Grace[/name] Regine instead?

Being Canadian, when I see “[name]Regina[/name]”, I always want to pronounce it like the city.
I think [name]Virginia[/name] is an AWESOME middle name, and I’d definitely pick that over [name]Regina[/name].

[name]Regina[/name] is actually my given name. I like it, and I love that it means “queen.” I think [name]Grace[/name] [name]Regina[/name] is beautiful. I wish my middle name was [name]Grace[/name] (instead of [name]Marie[/name]). Then my name would mean [name]Queen[/name] of [name]Grace[/name]! Your daughter’s name would mean [name]Grace[/name] [name]Queen[/name], which is good too. Everyone I’ve ever known named [name]Regina[/name] has been a wonderful person with special talents (and I’m not saying that because I am a [name]Regina[/name] - actually I’ve met just a handful of Reginas in my life). But of course, I say go for it!!!

Pronouncing the name like the city is a mispronunciation. [name]Regina[/name] is of Latin origin, and there is no long i vowel in Latin. The Brits cannibalized the name and it makes me furious. But then, as a real “[name]Regina[/name],” it would!

I’m responding to this the same way I responded to Lucialucentum, because I hadn’t seen this post before I responded to her. I wouldn’t even dignify [name]Kelly[/name] Ripa’s joke about the name. The correct pronunciation of [name]Regina[/name] existed long before the city.

Yes, the meaning is exactly what we’re going for. Fudging the grammar a bit I see her name meaning graceful [name]Queen[/name].
My actual goal is to name her after Our Lady of [name]Grace[/name] but [name]Madonna[/name] is the name meaning Our Lady and there’s no way dh would let me use [name]Madonna[/name].

Thanks for all the responses. We live no where near [name]Canada[/name] and in a fairly Catholic part of the country; I can’t imagine pronunciation being an issue. Dh’s can’t get over the virgin in [name]Virginia[/name] even though that’s exactly what makes it a [name]Marian[/name] name…oh well.

Oh dear, so sorry, had no idea that [name]Regina[/name] was pronounced differently as a name than the city. You will have no problems with it then! Not that it matters, but, [name]Kelly[/name] Rippa was making fun of the city name, not the pronouncation of the actual name! Good luck with your decision!

I really love [name]Grace[/name] [name]Regina[/name]. It has more spark and oomf then [name]Grace[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I’ve never met a [name]Regina[/name], but I love the Russian folk singer, [name]Regina[/name] Spektor. If it were my middle name, I’d be happy, beacuse there’s a meaning behind it (though [name]Athena[/name] [name]Regina[/name] is kinda rhymey…) I think it’s a lovely name!
