We’re expecting our second child in [name_f]April[/name_f]. We don’t know the sex yet, and my husband doesn’t want to discuss names until we do, but that doesn’t stop me from making my list
We are primarily [name_u]French[/name_u] speaking, but live in a [name_u]French[/name_u]/English community in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], so the name would need to work in both languages.
I have [name_u]Remy[/name_u]/Remi on my list, and in [name_u]French[/name_u], it’s pretty much strictly a boy name, but I’ve been searching on here and I’m seeing it pop up more as a girl’s name!
I guess my questions are these : 1) if you met a [name_u]Remy[/name_u]/Remi, would you assume they were a boy or a girl? And 2) would you assume it is spelled [name_u]Remy[/name_u] or [name_u]Remi[/name_u]?
To note : we would pronounce [name_u]Ray[/name_u]-mee, but I fully expect [name_f]English[/name_f] people to say [name_m]Rem[/name_m]-ee, and I’m ok with that.
I have heard of both male and female Remys (I believe one of the female Remys was [name_u]French[/name_u]), so it seems fairly gender neutral to me, and it’s one of the rare names that I like equally well on a boy and a girl. I prefer the [name_u]Remy[/name_u] spelling; it feels more balanced, somehow.
I would expect a boy. [name_u]Remi[/name_u] with an ‘i’ could go either way, but [name_u]Remy[/name_u] with a ‘y’ is definitely male to me. I like the [name_u]Remy[/name_u] spelling better, as well.
1 - I would definitely expect a [name_u]Remy[/name_u]/Remi to be a boy. I know one [name_u]Remy[/name_u] in real life, plus know of two fictional ones- all boys!
2 - I like the [name_u]Remy[/name_u] spelling, and it also seems more masculine to me.
I like it spelled [name_u]Remy[/name_u]. I think it is more a boy name, but i know two Israeli women named [name_u]Remy[/name_u]. I would pronounce it Reh-mee. Also love [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and this can be both girl or boy!!
I’m [name_u]French[/name_u] so obviously for me Rémy/ Rémi is strictly a baby boy name, and even more since it’s my brother’s name.
I’m think it’s a really beautiful name quite vintage plus it honors your [name_u]French[/name_u] background
The one [name_u]Remi[/name_u] I know in real life is a girl. That being said, It is unisex in my eyes, and I much prefer it for a boy. I like the [name_u]Remy[/name_u] spelling as it looks more complete.
I would expect boy. [name_u]Remy[/name_u] on a girl still doesn’t make a ton of sense to me, but I don’t “get” [name_u]Finley[/name_u] on a girl either.
I am Team [name_u]Remy[/name_u]. [name_u]Remi[/name_u] always seemed off to me, even though I know it’s valid.
I’ve met both boys and girls with this name, so it feels very unisex to me, though I always see [name_u]Remy[/name_u] as the masculine spelling and [name_u]Remi[/name_u] as the feminine one. [name_u]Remy[/name_u] I’ve seen short for [name_u]Remington[/name_u] too, but [name_u]Remi[/name_u] is usually a standalone.
I really like all versions of this name and personally think it’s a great choice!
I really like [name_u]Remy[/name_u]! I do pronounce it rem-ee but I like the idea of ray-mee
For spelling, if I saw “[name_u]Remi[/name_u]” I think I would assume girl. For [name_u]Remy[/name_u] I don’t necessarily have any assumptions.
