Thoughts on Robin as a boys name

Me and my husband really like [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] and are thinking of naming our son [name_u]Robin[/name_u]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s to feminine for a boy? We were thinking we could call him [name_u]Robbie[/name_u] or [name_m]Rob[/name_m] for short, and I really liked the fact that he’d have not only [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] to look up to but also [name_u]Robin[/name_u] hood and batman’s robin. What do you think?

I don’t think it is too feminine! I know a man named [name_u]Robin[/name_u] and a woman named [name_u]Robin[/name_u]. [name_u]Robbie[/name_u] is a cute childhood nickname and [name_m]Rob[/name_m] could be used when he is older! [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood is a pretty cool namesake for a young boy to look up too. There is also [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_u]Robin[/name_u]!

I really like it! I don’t find it too feminine at all, it’s definitely unisex in my mind. [name_u]Robbie[/name_u] is a cute nickname.

Robin has been seriously growing on me lately. I like it best in the middle name spot, I think, but I love the nickname [name_u]Robbie[/name_u] so if you plan to use that, then I like it as a first, too.

Not too feminine at all! I much prefer [name_u]Robin[/name_u] as a boy name and think it deserves more use. I say go for it!

I think it’s a great boy name. I actually prefer it for a boy. There are many guys named [name_u]Robin[/name_u], with both [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] and [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_m]Dunne[/name_m] being the first two to come to mind… actually they’re the first two of any gender to come to mind.

I think it’s very handsome on a boy. I thought it might be a great way to honor a [name_m]Robert[/name_m] in the family.

Really lovely! [name_u]Robin[/name_u] feels sweet but solid, and it’s an underused classic now. Very handsome.

I much prefer it for a boy! [name_f]My[/name_f] mom’s name is [name_u]Robin[/name_u], but it’s rarely used as a girls name anymore anyways. An alternative is [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]/Rubin

I don’t think [name_u]Robin[/name_u] is feminine at all, and I really like it for a boy. It feels very friendly and familiar, but still very striking.

I don’t think a hint of femininity is a bad thing in a boy’s name. Girls are being given traditionally male names lately ([name_u]Ryan[/name_u] [name_u]Reynolds[/name_u] & [name_u]Blake[/name_u] Lively’s daughter [name_u]James[/name_u] for example), and while it’s not everybody’s style, no one seems to think it’s a bad thing.

I also really dig the [name_u]Robin[/name_u] Hood connection!

Robin is ok. I don’t consider it too feminine. However, I don’t really care for Batman & [name_u]Robin[/name_u] association at all.

I love [name_u]Robin[/name_u] on a boy! I think it’s making a resurgence now that it’s not as popular for girls. It’s definitely a softer name, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing, like some other posters have said.

I think [name_u]Robin[/name_u] is a really lovely name and if [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] is someone you admire or enjoy its a subtle link to him without being too obvious.
