Thoughts on Rowan?

I would be interested in your thoughts on [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a girls name. I think it would age well but wonder about it being too masculine?

Thanks.

It’s a perfectly unisex name. I know girls and boys with this name. But my mind always wanders to Mr. [name_m]Bean[/name_m] so I cannot shake of his image when I think of [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. For that reason I prefer [name_f]Roanne[/name_f] / [name_f]Rowena[/name_f].

I personally prefer [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] on a boy/man.

I know it’s unisex, but I think it’s more masculine than feminine. What about [name_f]Rowena[/name_f]?

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is absolutely gorgeous! I love it! Still feminine! I’d put it with a more traditionally feminine name though.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Monique[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] Avaline
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] Leighann
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Yvette[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]

I love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for either a boy or a girl. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is one of my favorite combos.

I like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a boy, [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] for a girl. Same with [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] and [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]. It’d work fine on a girl anyways, I just have this thing against such perfectly lovely female variations being neglected in favour of the (to my mind) masculine variants.

[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] has always been one of my all time favorite girls’ names. You could easily shorten it, and call her [name_u]Rowen[/name_u] as a nickname, but I would use [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] as a formal name.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is beautiful - adding an A on the end changes the entire name. I don’t understand wanting to tack A’s on the end of things in order to make them more “feminine” (yes, etymologically it makes sense in some languages - my point is that gender can’t be summed up in a single sound)

I’ve only ever met 2 [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]'s before, both girls. It’s growing on in, but I lean towards more girl with it.

It does though. Look at Italian, Spanish or [name_m]French[/name_m] languages  [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] and [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] are completely different in [name_f]France[/name_f] because -ine in Latin names is a feminine mark whereas -in is masculine.

I only like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] on a boy, I would go with [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] for a girl. If you get the chance to use a feminine name with the nickname you like, why wouldn’t you do it?

Yes, I specifically stated etymologically, it does - but not everyone bases names off etymology or their historical usage. From a sociological standpoint and the standpoint of someone who stands firmly against the gender binary - no, a single letter or sound does not make a name more masculine or feminine. Gender is too fuzzy for all that. Secondly - just because a child is expected to have a vagina does not mean they should automatically be saddled with the most “feminine” and frilly choice when the parent prefers something else.

I love it for a girl! [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t mind it for a boy, but prefer it for a girl.
