What do all of you think of the boys name [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m]? Also, what sibling names would sound good with it?
I’m not normally one for out-there/in-your-face literary names, but I like this one. Classic without too much pretentiousness.
I like it. [name_m]Ruddy[/name_m] or [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] are cute nicknames.
It’s a cool name, but as a literary teacher who has studied [name_m]Kipling[/name_m] much…it doesn’t have the very best connotations. However, I think most average people that aren’t writers or Lit majors won’t even know the name. Therefore, I think you can get away with it. Here’s a couple sibling name ideas:

I actually love a lot of [name_m]Kipling[/name_m]'s work and of course I realise that he was very much a product of his time/upbringing, but you’d have to be blind not to see that as an author he was… let’s say ‘problematic’. Or I suppose if you hadn’t actually read any [name_m]Kipling[/name_m], but if that was the case it looks a bit strange to be naming a kid after him, since the name is very much associated with him.
I wouldn’t name a child after a famous imperialist and white-supremacist, I just wouldn’t, despite the fact that as I say I do very much enjoy his work and think there is a lot of literary merit there (people don’t usually win the Nobel Prize for nothing after all). [name_u]Kim[/name_u] is one of my favourite novels, I grew up loving The Jungle Book and The [name_m]Just[/name_m] So Stories, and of course If is one of the best-loved poems of all time (in [name_m]Britain[/name_m] at least). Overall, too much bad to be a good namesake, though.
I think it’s a unique name, and I kind of like it. Although there are problems others have noted previously!
