Thoughts on Rupert?

I need some thoughts on the name [name]Rupert[/name]. What do you think a [name]Rupert[/name] would be like? Would it suit a baby/small boy/ man? [name]Do[/name] you think it is stylish and unique? Or old and fusty? What sibling names would fit a boy called [name]Rupert[/name]?

Please share your thoughts!

I love [name]Rupert[/name]. It makes me think of the swashbuckling and dapper villain in some of [name]Anthony[/name] [name]Hope[/name]'s novels.

This is one of my “If my husband would let me name a baby without his input” names. I’m not good at the “what would a person named X be like” so I’ll skip to the siblings. I think you could go quirky, fusty, classic, antique… you’ve got options. I don’t think [name]Rupert[/name] would sound out of place next to [name]William[/name], [name]Frederick[/name], [name]Milo[/name]/[name]Miles[/name], [name]Walter[/name], [name]Edward[/name]/[name]Edmund[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], or [name]Ernest[/name] (I’ve got a huge soft spot for this one, too).

[name]Love[/name] it!

[name]Rupert[/name] is a great name! It’s quirky, spunky, and full of character. I would love to see it on a little boy.

I adore [name]Rupert[/name]! It’s definitely not one I could sneak onto the list, but it’s got so much spunk and life to it, I think it’s wonderful.

A fantastic name, I was at school with a [name]Rupert[/name] who was terribly posh but a very sweet child. I also loved [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Giles[/name] in [name]Buffy[/name] so it gets a big thumbs up from me.

I think of Ruperts as being very upper class, clever and charming.

I adore the name [name]Rupert[/name]. It’s just so lovely and sweet and charming and comes with the rather adorable nickname of Roo. My friend actually has a horse called [name]Rupert[/name] (not that it would ever stop me from using the name myself) and she calls him [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Bear[/name] which would be so cute on a toddler. And you could get him things with [name]Rupert[/name] the bear on them too :).

Also I’ve also noticed that there are several at-least-quite famous actors with the name [name]Rupert[/name] even though it’s fairly unusual. I just thought of 5 off the top of my head with very little effort and I’m sure I’m missing a couple. I think they’re all good actors so that has to give the name even more brownie points and if little [name]Rupert[/name] ever became a budding thespian he would already have a head start.

I think of Stewie [name]Griffin[/name]'s bear on Family [name]Guy[/name]

I love [name]Rupert[/name]… it’s dashing and handsome and oh so fun!

I think [name]Rupert[/name] is a great choice- unique, handsome and spunky. I love the nn [name]Rue[/name] for him as a boy and I think it works on a baby or adult. It definitely has a vintage feel but that fits in with today’s naming trends. I could see a [name]Rupert[/name] with siblings [name]Bertram[/name], [name]Maxwell[/name], [name]Walter[/name], [name]Miriam[/name], [name]Wilhelmina[/name], [name]Margo[/name] or [name]Frances[/name].

An unusual but normal choice… Does that make sense? I like it. It’s fun.

Oh, and sibling names! [name]Florence[/name], [name]Amabel[/name], [name]Leona[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Jemima[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name], [name]Selina[/name], [name]Wilfred[/name], [name]Felix[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], [name]Leopold[/name], [name]Vincent[/name], [name]Cecil[/name].

I love [name]Buffy[/name]. I actually love the name [name]Giles[/name] because of that show.

I think [name]Rupert[/name] is great! I don’t know if I would be brave enough to use it though. I am not sure how well received it would be in [name]North[/name] American. I am sure it would get strange looks where I live.

I personally love it. [name]Alastair[/name] [name]Rupert[/name] is my guilty pleasure combination…might be going a bit far… Good luck!

Another vote for [name]Rupert[/name]. I think of [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Bear[/name] first (adventurous, courageous, caring of his friends, respectful to his parents, fun-loving). Not fusty at all.

I’m so excited to read all these positive responses! I love [name]Rupert[/name] and DH is not 100% sold yet, but is seriously considering. All the positive comments are bound to help, so thank you all! Big brother is [name]Henry[/name], which where we live in Australia was uncommon at the time, but received mostly positive responses. However, [name]Rupert[/name] is extremely uncommon, so I’m expecting a few raised eyebrows! But I just love the name and nothing else fits the bill. love the [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Bear[/name] association, which is perhaps where I fell in love with the name as a child.
I would love to hear any suggestions for middle names! I’m toying with [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Edward[/name], but [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Hugo[/name] has just come to mind…

[name]Rupert[/name] [name]Edward[/name] would be awesome!

I think it’s very old, almost outdated, and chic.

With [name]Rupert[/name], I see … [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Gaylord[/name], [name]George[/name], [name]Werner[/name], Wenceslas, [name]Donald[/name], [name]Alistair[/name], [name]Phineas[/name], Philius, [name]Victoria[/name], [name]Fleur[/name], [name]Emily[/name], [name]Hermine[/name].
