Thoughts on Rupert

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone
In need of some feedback on the name [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] for my son - do you like it, what are your thoughts? He’s 3 weeks old and we are stuck.

We chose it because the meaning is special, we like the [name_f]British[/name_f] feel of it (and my husband is English) we live in [name_u]New[/name_u] [name_u]Zealand[/name_u] where it’s a pretty uncommon name and [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_u]Bear[/name_u] is known, but not as popular (and the association is not something that bothers me).

But I had negative feedback from family, which has made me question whether I love the name enough myself to use it…

We were thinking [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_u]Fox[/name_u] or [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] .

Thank you!

If YOU love the name and it has special meaning please fight for it! [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is unique but dignified to me, but not stuffy!

I love Rupert!! It is at the top of our boy list!! We are in Australia and I think it would be relatively well received here. We like Roo and [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] as nicknames!

Other names on our list are [name_m]Albert[/name_m], [name_m]Alvin[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_u]Robin[/name_u].

Sorry to go against the consensus, but [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] seems a bit prissy to me.

I love the name [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]! I really like the sound of it, and it feels very classic. I really like [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_u]Fox[/name_u], a both modern and established combo.
Feels very [name_f]British[/name_f] to me, in the best possible sense. Probably because I love [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] and the actor that portrays [name_m]Ron[/name_m] Weasley is named [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]! :joy:
I you want a nn, [name_u]Rue[/name_u] is really cute! Of course, if you don’t want one [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is a great name on its own.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]. If you love it that’s all that matters. I think it fits right in with all the older style names making a comeback.

We didn’t tell them until he was a week old and we were announcing it as his chosen name!

I really like the name Rupert - I know two children called Rupert (one among my friends’ kids and one a cousin’s kid). It’s definitely a smart, slightly poncy but still very vibrant and fun name! My friend who has a Rupert is an Aussie married to a Brit. They almost only use Rupert but occasionally Rupes or Roo. Don’t let anyone talk you out of a name unless it’s because you’re about to accidentally make your kid have a joke name. I bet your family say something really annoying like, “he’s such a Rupert” or even “I really like his name” in a few years’ time or else they’ll be onto their other thing to b*tch about.

I think you should go for Rupert but names in similar vein that can work in this part of world too: Darcy, Hamish, Sebastian, Henry, or Curtis.

Good luck!
