Thoughts on Sahar?

I really like the name [name_f]Sahar[/name_f]. It’s so pretty to me! What are your thoughts on the name? I would only use it as a middle though. Also I know it’s an Arabic name and I am black so idk if using it would be seen as a sign of culture appropriation or just weird lol. Please add any other names that fit its vibe/goes well with it!

Sahar is beautiful! I think it’s a great name and the meaning ‘dawn’ is lovely :sunrise_over_mountains:

I don’t have any Arab roots, so it’s not my place to say for certain, but I don’t think it would be considered bad to use. It doesn’t have any religious, historical, or specific cultural connotations that would make it weird/inappropriate on someone not belonging to that culture. It’s also already used in Arabic, Persian, and Urdu, and the very similar Shahar is used in Hebrew (also meaning dawn since they’re closely related languages), plus with the similarity to Sahara like the desert, it just feels very multilingual and international to me.

Other names that Sahar reminds me of…

Well I don’t think skin colour necessarily has anything to do with it, but I personally would feel a bit odd using a name from an entirely different culture? That said, if it’s only a middle name and you’re using it with knowledge and respect of the language it’s from, I don’t think it’s wrong to use it! But I’m not an Arab or Iranian so take that with a grain of salt.

Personally, I think it’s gorgeous! I love the distinct sound – it sounds very sweet to me, because it’s very similar to the word for “sugar” in various European languages (Sahar itself actually does mean “sugar” in Russian!) I do wonder if some [name_f]English[/name_f] speakers may struggle with the “h” sound in the name although since it’s a middle name it shouldn’t matter (apologies if you’re not from an English-speaking country, when someone doesn’t specify where they’re from I assume that’s the case but I could be wrong). I think [name_f]Sahar[/name_f] would be a great way to add a lot of charm and intrigue to a more familiar first name!

I think Sahar is a beautiful name with a lovely meaning. It is an Arabic/Persian name that is used across the Islamic world. But I’m not aware of any specific religious or cultural meaning that would make it inappropriate for someone of a different culture to use. I guess it just depends on what you’re comfortable with.
