Thoughts on Samaria...? Christian Girl Name Saga #3

Hello again everybody!

Thank you all for helping my friend and I on her name choice journey

Yesterday we were looking through more names looking for inspiration and [name_f]Samaria[/name_f] really latched onto her!

What are your honest thoughts about this name?
What middle names do you think go with it? (She also likes double middles)
Are there any issues she may run into with it?
Is there anything else you think is worth mentioning?

Thanks for any input everyone!

[name_u]Love[/name_u],
[name_f]Vera[/name_f].

That would be an interesting choice indeed. An easy nn would be [name_u]Sam[/name_u] or [name_u]Maria[/name_u] in my mind. For anyone who knows the Scripture the two stories I think of are of the Good Samaritan and the Samaritan woman… one thing to remember is that biblically speaking the Samaritans were looked at as a despised group of people. But the Shepherds weren’t the highest class biblically speaking and people draw to that name as a [name_u]Christian[/name_u] choice. But the fact that the Samaritans were “despised” makes the two mentioned stories above so compelling. I’ve never heard of it as a potential name but I’m intrigued!

Edited to add: I’d keep the middle short and sweet-
Joy, Ruth, Pearl come to mind.

[name_f]Samaria[/name_f] is very pretty, but I would be concerned about pronunciation issues. Is it pronounced sam-are-ee-ya, with the accent on the second syllable?

We were saying it “[name_u]Sam[/name_u]-are-ia” haven’t heard it said the other way here growing up in church so I’m not sure it’d be much of a problem here? Not completely sure though. :purple_heart:

Ok. That’s what I would have guessed! I’m glad that it probably won’t be an issue!

It’s a very pretty name; it’s classic and feminine sounding but rarely used. The meaning of it is also attached to some very profound and relevant parables. I think shorter and more familiar middle names would be lovely with [name_f]Samaria[/name_f].

It is an interesting choice to be sure, but I think I like it. Seems rather like a [name_f]Samantha[/name_f]-[name_u]Maria[/name_u] smoosh. Very pretty!

I think it probably calls for a more simple and/or classic middle name. I think [name_f]Samaria[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u], for instance, would be so pretty!

The only issue I can think of is maybe pronunciation, but it seems fairly straightforward and shouldn’t be too much of a problem. The Biblical associations all seem quite positive, imo.

Overall, it’s an intriguing choice, and, if she loves it, I can’t think of a reason not to go for it!

I know one IRL and it suits her completely. No one batts an eyelid when she introduces herself. She never goes by a nickname now although I think she got [name_u]Sam[/name_u] in school. She pronounces is Suh-MAH-ria. The end rhymes with [name_f]Aria[/name_f].

I love the name personally and think it’s not nearly as popular as it should be!

I like the sound of [name_f]Samaria[/name_f].
I suppose for a double middle name I’d do something like [name_f]Samaria[/name_f] Raziel [name_u]June[/name_u]
