Thoughts on Sapphira?

Its the Greek variation of [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]. I understand the meaning may be a turn off for some but most people do not look deep into meanings like us on NB or us name nerds do. So I am not concerned about that.

What do you think about [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] and what middles go best with it? I have been struggling a little bit with combos.

Thanks!

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]. I like the way it sounds even more than the way it looks on paper. Ok, middle names, that’s tricky since [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] is such a show stopper. If you wanted to keep with the Greek-origin name theme, here are a few ideas for you:

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] (normally I don’t like a FN and MN that both end in the same letter, but with a longer MN, it somehow works for me)
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Corisande[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Eos[/name_f]

Or, getting away from the Greek theme, maybe it would be interesting to give a MN that is very much in constrast with the lovely flow of [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f], but still ha slightly an exotic sound, e.g. [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Tamar[/name_f]. Somehow that one really works for me.

Of my list, my favorites are [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Tamar[/name_f].

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] is gorgeous, especially if you pronounce [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] ta-[name_f]MAR[/name_f]. The second syllable emphasis makes the whole thing pop, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] (prefer [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], but [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] is nice) the precious stone image is an upside [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I also met a beautiful little girl names [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f] not long ago which makes me think it could work. Besides, it’s really no longer than [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]… and a bit less tied to a commercial image than the otherwise-lovely [name_f]Sephora[/name_f].

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] appeals to me for sheer stripped down simplicity. I never meet little girls with the middle name [name_u]Lee[/name_u], only older women, yet it has a spare and pretty sound to me.
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] - another MN with second-syllable emphasis.
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Ione[/name_f] - this is name-nerd corny (“violets are blue…”) but I don’t think anyone would get it in real life so it’s not embarrassing, and I also think it’s sweet. And it sounds nice. And its thematically Greek.

I think [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] is a nice variation of [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f].

You may also like the name [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f].

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] (also love [name_f]Sephora[/name_f]). What about…

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] Fairuze

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_u]Echo[/name_u]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Bijou[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Marine[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Danae[/name_f]

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Monet[/name_f]

I cannot get over the Biblical connection with the name [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]. In Acts 5, it talks about how [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] LIED to cover up her husband’s hypocrisy and was struck dead by God. Here’s the passage:

Acts 5:1-11:

1 Now a man named [name_m]Ananias[/name_m], together with his wife [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f], also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.

3 Then [name_m]Peter[/name_m] said, “[name_m]Ananias[/name_m], how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy [name_f]Spirit[/name_f] and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”

5 When [name_m]Ananias[/name_m] heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.

7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 [name_m]Peter[/name_m] asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and [name_m]Ananias[/name_m] got for the land?”

“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”

9 [name_m]Peter[/name_m] said to her, “[name_m]How[/name_m] could you conspire to test the [name_f]Spirit[/name_f] of the [name_m]Lord[/name_m]? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”

10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.

I personally would not use [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] because of that connection.

I think [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] is really pretty.

I think [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] is really pretty regardless of negative connotations. I think simple middle names would go best with [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f].
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] or [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] sounds pretty to me.

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] is a stunning name. I would go with something more mainstream for the middle name.

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]/[name_u]Vivien[/name_u]/[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]

(I’m just throwing out random names out of the top 500 or so. I’m not sure what your style is.)

I like this name but Im not sure I like the fear sound in it. On a real person I think I prefer [name_f]Saphira[/name_f]. Seems more like a name that way too me

I am glad the name is getting positive feed back!

@hillymae- From the ones you suggested I like [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], and [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]. I normally would be weird with two names having the same ending sound but it seems to work in this case! [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] is not bad either I have to let that one roll around in my head for a little bit.

stripedsocks- [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] sounds very romantic which I like, and like I sound above I definitely am going to have to think about [name_f]Tamar[/name_f]. Still not sure how I feel about it.

sorceress- I have thought about [name_f]Sephora[/name_f] but I can not get the makeup store out of my mind. I am loving [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f], and [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Monet[/name_f].

dramagrl19- I am not super religious so that doesn’t even cross my mind or I don’t see it like that. I think more of the variation of my birthstone color [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f].

babyninja143- [name_f]Love[/name_f] how you mentioned [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]. [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] is my mothers name and it is nice to see it being used. I never thought about using her name as a middle before.

southern.maple- Thanks [name_f]Maple[/name_f]! From your suggestions I really like [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], and [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] (which was my mothers grandmothers name).

I appreciate all of these suggestions!

lol, I just read the nameberry entry and it says she was killed by God for lying about a “tax payment”. A tax payment? No, she wasn’t. She was killed for conspiring with her husband to lie about how much they’d received for the sale of a piece of land. They weren’t required to give anything, but they sold land and said they’d offered the entire sum to the church (in order to look good in front of their peers), but they’d kept a portion for themselves thinking they could get away with the lie, look good, and have some money. They were called out and still lied.

Yep, getting killed by an all-loving god because of a financial lie. Great reason not to use the name. I’m being sarcastic of course - [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] is a great name. I love [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f].

It’s pretty but I wouldn’t use it. [name_f]Saphira[/name_f] is a better spelling because at first glance people will see [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f] and mispronounce her name

I prefer [name_f]Zephyra[/name_f]/[name_f]Zephira[/name_f]

I love it. I wouldn’t shy away from using it for the Bible fable reason. More people don’t believe in those stories than do.

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] is one of my top favorite names! I second the suggestions of [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] (it really sounds stunning) and [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] (it has a nice flow, [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] gives [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] a classical feel, and it would honor your mom, so Aplus combo to me)

I like [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]/[name_f]Saphira[/name_f]…very much

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]/[name_f]Saphira[/name_f] [name_u]Elm[/name_u]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]/[name_f]Saphira[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]/[name_f]Saphira[/name_f] [name_f]Nyx[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]/[name_f]Saphira[/name_f] [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]

Another option is the lesser known Svara

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] is really pretty! There’s an Australian/Canadian model ([name_f]Tara[/name_f] [name_m]Moss[/name_m]) who named her daughter [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]. Unfortunately, I’m pretty bad at combinations so I’ll let others contribute there! But I would like to say that the meaning behind the name (the Bible story) matters not one jot! I’m glad you’re not worried about that connection because most people won’t have heard of the story and if they have…well, so what? It’s all a lot of hokum anyway

I love that name but I may be biased as we were going to call our first daughter that haha :)! we named her Sophira instead as we didn’t want the nickname Saffy etc. we figured it sounds similar anyway with our Aussie accents it comes out like [name_f]Sephira[/name_f] or [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]. Not many people like her name or are indifferent but we don’t mind, her name is a hit with her friends and has grown on others

If you are considering similar names we know friends with babies named Sophine or Safine and even [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f] (pronounced Saf-fear). The spelling [name_f]Saphira[/name_f] is lovely too (like in Eragon)

Some middle names suggestions:

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] (I think [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] as a middle suits so many first names)

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Ava[/name_f] (same as [name_f]Bethany[/name_f])

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f]

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f]

[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
