Thoughts on this name? I quite like the sound. I also love Sol (but pronounce it the same as Saul, like Sawl) and Solomon but prefer it short, and feel the spelling Saul is more intuitive for the pronunciation i’m looking for. Saul also is 4L, like my one of my sons names, and one syllable like my most recent daughter’s name. I’ve been really liking a lot of short names lately.
So focusing on Saul, do you like it? is it usable? What kind of vibes do you get from this name?
I’d say them differently so this is hard to answer based on that but I do prefer the simplicity, the warm and brightness of [name_m]Sol[/name_m]. It feels more easy going, more charming to me. Still, for the Sawl pn I’d intuitively spell it [name_m]Saul[/name_m], so maybe that’s better in this case?
I really like this name! Brighter and more interesting than [name_m]Paul[/name_m] (sorry [name_m]Paul[/name_m] fans), a bit of a nature connection as it’s reminiscent of sol/solar, simple, sweet and tailored.
Both spellings are great though they have slightly different vibes to me. [name_m]Saul[/name_m] is more intuitive, [name_m]Sol[/name_m] would have less of a religious/biblical connection if that’s a factor for you.
[name_f]My[/name_f] only thing is that some of the combos blur a bit. So [name_m]Sol[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] reminds me a bit of [name_f]Solar[/name_f] (but pronounced different). I would pick [name_m]Saul[/name_m] [name_m]August[/name_m] from your list. I used to have the combos [name_m]Saul[/name_m] [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] and [name_m]Saul[/name_m] [name_m]Asher[/name_m] on my list if you like either of those.
I also pronounce them differently! [name_m]Saul[/name_m] is, well, like [name_m]Paul[/name_m]. Sawl. Whereas [name_m]Sol[/name_m] is more like the word “soul” to me!
I definitely like [name_m]Sol[/name_m] more - this spelling just feels more airy and magical and youthful to me, as well as just effortlessly cool. [name_m]Saul[/name_m], meanwhile, has more of a retro-cool vibe to me.
Regardless, they’re great names! [name_m]Sol[/name_m] especially I find so handsome, I love the gentle sound. It also has a starry feel to me because of the sun & solar system imagery that you get with this spelling!
[name_m]Saul[/name_m] has really grown on me! It has mixed vibes to me: ancient and religious vs. cowboy. I’ve only known one (who used the Spanish pronunciation of sa-OOL), and it fit him really well. I pronounce [name_m]Sol[/name_m] differently (more like “soul”), and it has a more sleek, celestial feel.
[name_m]Sol[/name_m] = soul
[name_m]Saul[/name_m] = sawl
at least how I’d say it (midwest raised). You should know that most associate [name_m]Saul[/name_m] with his pre-conversion exploits, however, even if that isn’t accurate.
From the same area - I guess I wonder if I used [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] with [name_m]Sol[/name_m] as a nickname I could get away with pronouncing it Sahl
