So far this is hubby’s fave girl name but I have a few questions.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you immediately/exclusively think Biblical? This is something it’s important for us to avoid.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce it see-lah or say-lah? Which do you prefer?
I think biblical because I’m familiar with it. But anyone regardless of any religious affiliation could fit the name. I think it’s a cool pick! I pronounce it seh-luh.
I like the name [name_f]Selah[/name_f], and I don’t automatically think of the bible, because it’s in my favorite movie. I hate [name_m]Say[/name_m]-la, and always say See-lah.
I love [name_f]Selah[/name_f] but I only like it pronounced [name_m]SAY[/name_m]-luh, so that’s how I would say it. Not a fan of the other pronunciations but I see those most often when I look at sites so I have Saela on my list instead to clarify the pronunciation I want. It doesn’t make me think bible.
[name_f]Selah[/name_f] is very high on our list of girls names right now too, but I should let you know that we love it BECAUSE it is Biblical, so at least for me there is some connotation. That being said, its a fairly obscure biblical reference (the old name for a place mentioned on occasion) and I doubt many people would pick up on it. We pronounce it [name_m]Say[/name_m]-Luh. I also love it spelled Sayla, like [name_f]Layla[/name_f], which I think removes the Bible vibes entirely.
I would pronounce it [name_m]Say[/name_m]-lah or Say-luh, and actually [name_f]Selah[/name_f] (by [name_f]Lauryn[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m]) is one of my favorite songs! Beautiful name. I, too, am aware that it’s biblical, but that isn’t the first thing that comes to mind at all.
