I know a lot of berries don’t like boy names on girls, but Nameberry suggests this one gets a new life on a girl. What’s your opinion on [name_u]Sheridan[/name_u]? I quite like it to honor a [name_f]Sheri[/name_f].
There was a girl at school with this name and she always got [name_u]Sheridan[/name_u] which I didn’t mind but later I knew people called her [name_f]Sherry[/name_f] which I didn’t like at all.
I would ignore most of the official Nameberry Team advice for the most part; they’ve been criticized massively on the forums for a while now.
[name_u]Sheridan[/name_u] has a very dated feel to me. It’s really ‘chavy’ where I’m from - but I don’t think that sort of social structure and conditioning exists outside the UK, nor do I particularly think it should matter. I’m personally just not a fan. I feel like she’d have sister [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]… just dated surnamey names.
I do have a soft spot of Irish surnames on the whole though, particularly for girls. I’d suggest… [name_u]Madigan[/name_u], [name_u]Brennan[/name_u], [name_f]Greer[/name_f], [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], [name_u]Tierney[/name_u]?
I’m not a fan of [name_u]Sheridan[/name_u] for a girl, or a boy really. As a name, [name_u]Sheridan[/name_u] feels really masculine.
To be honest I don’t really like it. If you wanted to honour a [name_f]Sheri[/name_f] there are other names that could do it, personally I like [name_f]Sheree[/name_f] or [name_f]Sherie[/name_f]. You could still do it as a middle name if you weren’t too sure. Best of luck!
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate honest answers.
[name_u]Sheridan[/name_u] reminds me of motels and I have no idea why.
[name_u]Sheridan[/name_u] was the name of my friend’s cat! It does sound rather chavvy to me but if it works for you, go for it!
Perhaps due to Sheraton Hotels?
Sorry if this sounds silly, but I have no clue what chavvy means. Can you explain?
Umm, I would say it’s the UK equivalent to trailer trash but not quite. It describes someone or something who is usually of lower class and is unpleasant, tacky etc. It’s hard to explain when it’s a word taken for granted over here.
Got it, thanks.
This probably isnt an issue for you. But its the name of a college here in [name_m]Ontario[/name_m]. So thats what I immediately think of.
I immediately thought of the Sheraton hotels.
I feel the same, [name_u]Sheridan[/name_u] is dated and not pretty in my opinion. I love [name_u]Madigan[/name_u]!
Not a fan…it puts me in mind of the Sheraton hotel chain.
I find it very masculine, and it reminds me of the Union Civil War [name_m]General[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] (I believe that was his first name) [name_u]Sheridan[/name_u]. But he’s actually a pretty cool guy, here is his wikipedia page: Philip Sheridan - Wikipedia
Not really a fan, too masculine for me, but I like the suggestion of [name_u]Madigan[/name_u] (but I prefer it for a boy).
I thought of [name_f]Nicollette[/name_f] [name_u]Sheridan[/name_u] so I think it works on a female.
