I’ve been trying to have more fun with my lists lately, rather than only allowing myself to add names I really love or would actually use, and I’ve recently been really enjoying Sinclair.
I don’t love how it looks, but I feel like the pronunciation is very satisfying. I also really like St. Clair, said like “Saint Clair” rather than Sinclair, but I prefer how Sinclair looks by quite a lot. What does everyone think of Sinclair?
Would it be wearable and/or intuitive? Do you prefer the Sinclair pronunciation or the “Saint Clair” pronunciation? Do you see it on a boy or a girl? Does it work on all ages? In my mind the name is more masculine despite Clair being in it (which is a girls name to me.) What vibes do you get? Is there any strong associations you have with the name?
Middle and first name ideas are appreciated, as well as your honest opinions!
It’s a family surname for me, so that’s my main association. I like the -clair part, but not so much the Sin part. I think St [name_u]Clair[/name_u] could possibly be the better option for a first name (but I would absolutely put [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] in the middle spot).
@AriannaLee I’m not a fan of Synclaire, but I think [name_u]Sinclaire[/name_u] is okay! I think the spelling [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] is starting to grow on me the more I see it!
@Chococat I started loving it as a surname (it’s so cool!), but obviously I’d be way more likely to use it as a first or middle!
@cms1512 That’s so exciting! [name_u]Love[/name_u] the description.
@Greyblue I feel the same way about the academia preppy vibe! I’m really liking [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] [name_u]Fox[/name_u], [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u], and [name_u]George[/name_u] [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u]! Thanks so much!
[name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] is really cool, I like it a lot. He has kind of a bookish, academic vibe. I’ve always said it phonetically, and didn’t even know that St. [name_u]Clair[/name_u] was a way of pronouncing it, but I like that way too. I would see it only as a masculine name despite the [name_u]Clair[/name_u], and I prefer it on a boy.
I think it’s very cool. I can see why people would find it uppercrust, but I don’t really get that vibe at all. I think new-age, modern, Brooklyn-esque, artistic… if that makes sense. I can see it working well on a boy or a girl but I kinda like the unisex vibe on a girl. I see it as a versatile name that can work with any age. [name_f]My[/name_f] only association is [name_m]Upton[/name_m] [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] but it’s not a huge or overbearing one.
i really like sinclair!
i first heard of it when watching my fav show the 100 so thats my association.
i would say its great for both genders and i would love to see it get used!
however i’ve never heard it prn st. clair, always sin-claire.
you could also spell it sinclaire.
hope this helps!
I’ve been seeing [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] more online. I like it for a girl more than a boy but it absolutely works for either.
I think it’s wearable, it has a preppy vibe. Very old money in the US. I do think it could work for all ages. I would love to meet one in real life and would walk away impressed with the parents for choosing the name.
@OctaviaMay Thanks so much! I don’t technically think St. [name_u]Clair[/name_u] is actually a “correct” pronunciation, but I feel like lots of people near me say the St. [name_u]Clair[/name_u] spelling as it looks rather than [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u], so I wondered if it would be more intuitive. Anyhow, I think I do actually prefer [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] now either way!
@Youssarian That description is so interesting to me! I actually really like the uppercrust feeling, but the way you described it is great!
@Yolooo Oh my gosh, I didn’t know there was a gas station with the name! That’s a bummer, but hey, what a cool gas station name, I guess? I don’t think there are any [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] gas stations near me, so that’s a relief!
@nameblossom Thanks so much! I don’t see it pronounced as St. [name_u]Clair[/name_u] often, and really only when it’s a surname. I’m definitely liking the [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] pronunciation more now, thanks!
@KayHarlow Right? It’s quite unique and fresh almost, but it feels historical and regal at the same time. Thanks!
@PaperGirlAC I love the old money feel that I get from [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u], as well as the preppy-ness of it, so I’m glad you get that vibe, too! Thanks so much!
