Hello! I’m new to Nameberry I just wanted to get people’s honest opinions on a name I’ve been liking lately, Sophiana. I love the name [name]Sophie[/name], but I think I’d want a long name to go with it. Is it usable?
I prefer just [name]Sophie[/name]. Sophiana looks and sounds a bit overwrought to me.
Honestly, I’m not really a fan of this. I love [name]Sophia[/name] and I love [name]Ana[/name] but this looks made up to me. If you were going to use it I think I prefer Sofiana for some reason. If you love it though, then by all means use it and don’t listen to me.
As the PP said, if you like it, use it but personally I find the extra letters to be unnecessary! [name]Sophie[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name] alone are great names.
[name]Sophie[/name] [name]Anna[/name] or, my favorite, [name]Anna[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]
I see where you are going with this. [name]Audrey[/name] to [name]Audrianna[/name] works for me as does [name]Julie[/name] to [name]Julianna[/name]. Sophiana does not look right. Maybe because it seems too make up and my examples have been around awhile. I love sophie/sophia and the name another person suggested “[name]Anna[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]” sounds beautiful (but you might prefer [name]Sophie[/name] as the first name). Have you thought about hyphenating to [name]Sophie[/name]-[name]Anna[/name]?
Honestly my first thought on reading the name was: “ok so those people really like the name [name]Sophie[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name] but don’t like the popularity so have added some letters”. It’s not a great impression. [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name] are beautiful names on their own and don’t need extra letters. [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Anne[/name], [name]Sophie[/name] [name]Anna[/name] and [name]Anna[/name] [name]Sophie[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name] as first and middle name or double name work much better. My advice would be to either be brave and just go for [name]Sophie[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name] or find a different name. [name]Hope[/name] that help, [name]Dahlia[/name]
I think “overwrought” is the absolutely perfect description of how I feel about the name Sophiana. I love the suggestion of [name]Sophie[/name] [name]Anna[/name] instead.
Thank you all for your response! I’m starting to agree with you. My only worry is that [name]Sophie[/name] will not age well, but that might just be my imagination.
Sophiana looks very contrived to me. If you’re worried about the popularity of [name]Sophie[/name] (I would be too) maybe [name]Sophia[/name] would be a better choice, and I think it’s a bit prettier, though the name(s) are not my style.
Well I’m gonna go against the crowd here… I love Sophianna… wisdom & grace… [name]Sophia[/name] has been in the top 10 names in the US for like 5+ years… it’d be like choosing [name]Mary[/name]… waaaaay 2 common for my taste. I’ve grown up as [name]Arianna[/name] & loved that there was never another one in any of my classes. I didn’t even meet another [name]Arianna[/name] until I was 18! So I would want my daughter to have the choice to shorten it if she wanted to, like I could. Sophianna has lots of options depending on where she is & how many other [name]Sophia[/name]/Sofies are around. :o)
Sounds like a made up name. I love [name]Sophia[/name]/[name]Sophie[/name] though!
I really like it! I see where the others are coming from but I love “smoosh” names like [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Anabell[/name], Sarabeth, & Rayanne. Sophiana just falls into this catagory for me. Of course people are going to like [name]Sophie[/name] better: the numbers PROVE that people are going to like this version more. I think [name]Sophie[/name] is beautiful but it feels like a nn to me. My full name is [name]Eleanor[/name] and I can’t imgaine if I had been named just “[name]Ellie[/name]”. I think Sophiana would be the only Sophiana anyone knew but people wouldn’t have trouble with pronounciation or spelling. I think Sophiana is really pretty and that the same nameberries who say it looks made-up would love it if you said it was your great-grandmother’s name. [name]Just[/name] saying. Good luck!
