[name]Nephele[/name]! The literary connections, oh, how I adore them, I am a literature lover. Some of my very favourite names come from literature! I would love to know if you’ve read of any [name]Gwendolyn[/name]'s! That is my number one name.
There is a [name]Gwendolen[/name] in “The Importance of Being [name]Earnest[/name],” just so you know… ![]()
Yes, yes, [name]Lemon[/name], please do!!! You could use a [name]Flower[/name] [name]Fairy[/name] illustration for each topic focusing on one of the [name]Flower[/name] Fairies! [name]Feel[/name] free to lift them from my [name]Flower[/name] Fairies anagramming topic here:
I know that I will really enjoy reading these! And perhaps others here can add their impressions to each individual topic, as well. And find literary examples of the use of these floral names, as I did in this thread.
Oh, and also come up with suitable middle names for the [name]Flower[/name] Fairies. What sort of middle name would go with [name]Tansy[/name], I wonder? ![]()

[name]Nephele[/name],
[name]How[/name] should I go about doing this? And how do I lift pictures? Is that the link of all of the flower fairy names?
[name]Lemon[/name]
Oh, goodness! So much to do, so little time! Once [name]Nephele[/name] gets back to me, I will start going through each flower fairy name on a daily basis under a new thread entitled “[name]Flower[/name] [name]Fairy[/name] Descriptions.”
Until then, I shall see to some of your comments:
lyndsayjenness -
[name]MAGNOLIA[/name]: [name]Magnolia[/name] is a bright, thoughtful, delicate little girl. I imagine her with red curls lightened by time spent out in the sun, her green eyes flashing as she observes the world around her. Dressed in a sweet floral party dress, [name]Magnolia[/name] skips down the drive, her ruby-red sandals slapping the ground with every step. [name]Magnolia[/name], though small and gentle, is a leader, and she pulls her friend, timid and shy, along the concrete with her, giddily laughing all the way. Attentive and curious, [name]Magnolia[/name] stops suddenly when she sees a fallen bird’s nest, immediately directing her friend’s attention to the small baby bird cradled in the broken twigs. [name]Magnolia[/name] takes on a motherly persona, soothing the bird with her sweeter-than-sugar voice and soft laugh, and she grins up at her pal as the bird begins to settle. Proud of her accomplishment, [name]Magnolia[/name] jumps up and scurries toward the house, her curls bouncing as she runs in search of her father. [name]Magnolia[/name], though gentle and intellectual, is stubborn and sassy, and her bold personality makes her a friend to all.
[name]MARIGOLD[/name]: Sassy and rambunctious, [name]Marigold[/name] has a bold personality that nobody can forget. With her golden brown hair tied back in sloppy pigtails and dressed in soft denim shorts and a loose peasant top, [name]Marigold[/name] is ready to face the day. Her blue eyes twinkling and a devilish grin on her face, she races out the door, barefoot. Being the trickster that she is, [name]Marigold[/name] shouts to her mother that she’ll be back in a bit and heads out, forgetting to shut the door in the process. Her mother looks on as [name]Marigold[/name], curious and intelligent as ever, bounds through the yard, hops over the fence, and runs to her neighbor’s house, all the while a toothy grin plastered on her shining face. Later on, [name]Marigold[/name] rushes through the door again, nearly crushing her mother in the process. A small creature in her hands makes a little squeak, alerting the girls of his presence. [name]Marigold[/name] looks down, uncharacteristically calm, and soothes the small puppy with her tiny fingers. “Look, mom,” she says, “[name]Theo[/name] got a new puppy!” And that’s [name]Marigold[/name] - playful and fun, independent and curious, and just a tad bit irresponsible. [name]Marigold[/name] is confident and bright, yet her sassy attitude and tendency toward sneakiness and adventure make her a handful of a daughter, but the perfect person to spend a lazy afternoon with!
[name]Hope[/name] you enjoy, [name]Lyndsay[/name]!
spotlightstarlit, I’ll get to you in a bit - probably later on tonight when I have more time. Sorry!
[name]Lemon[/name]
Spotlightstarlit, I’m very fond of the name [name]Gwendolyn[/name], too! [name]Gwendolyn[/name] has a rich history, in both literature and film. [name]Author[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] Gates (1875-1951) wrote a play titled “The Poor [name]Little[/name] [name]Rich[/name] Girl” which opens with the title character, [name]Gwendolyn[/name], celebrating her 11th birthday. It’s not the happiest of days for little [name]Gwendolyn[/name] ” although her parents are wealthy New [name]York[/name] society folks, they don’t seem to be able to find the time to spend with their daughter. Poor [name]Gwendolyn[/name] is left to the care of servants, who aren’t very caring at all. The magic begins when [name]Gwendolyn[/name] suddenly finds herself in a fantasy world where odd metaphors (such as “she’s a snake in the grass”) literally come true.
This play was made into a movie in 1917, starring the famous [name]Mary[/name] [name]Pickford[/name] as [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. The movie was re-made as a musical 1936, this time starring [name]Shirley[/name] [name]Temple[/name] in the title role (the character’s name of [name]Gwendolyn[/name] was changed to [name]Barbara[/name], though).
[name]Lemon[/name], I love [name]Oscar[/name] Wilde! Good find!
As for how to lift the pictures… [name]Just[/name] right-click your mouse over your picture of choice, select “Properties” from the bottom of the pop-up list, copy the URL given, then paste it into your posting with the code IMG (in brackets) at the beginning, and the code /IMG (again, in brackets) at the end.
Nicely done on the name descriptions, [name]Lemon[/name]!
[name]Pam[/name], thanks for the props! ![]()
(Sorry, [name]Cicely[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Barker[/name] didn’t do a [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Flower[/name] [name]Fairy[/name].)
– [name]Nephele[/name]
Thanks so much for those, [name]Lemon[/name]! I love them! I can’t decide if I’d rather have a [name]Magnolia[/name] or a [name]Marigold[/name], they both sound like they could be my children! They’d make sweet sisters, so different!
You have a great knack for capturing a personality in such a short number of words. I assume you’re a writer! Maybe after you do all the flower fairies you could start a blog where you do one name a day. I would bookmark you! Your descriptions and [name]Nephele[/name]'s literary connections really make the names seem real, easier to picture on a child, ya know? Then you could team up with [name]Abby[/name] from appellationmountain.net and write a name book the likes of which the world has never seen!
[name]Nephele[/name], thank you for the picture of the [name]Marigold[/name] fairy! She is so pretty! I’m surprised [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Barker[/name] didn’t do a [name]Magnolia[/name] fairy, she did so many! Maybe it’s because magnolias grow on trees… but no, there are tree fairies… hmm.
[name]Ah[/name]! Okay - let’s see if this works…
Thanks for the assistance, [name]Nephele[/name]! I’m computer-challenged sometimes. And, I love [name]Oscar[/name] Wilde, and [name]Gwendolen[/name] and [name]Cecily[/name] - stellar names indeed.
If we can’t have a [name]Flower[/name] [name]Fairy[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name], then let’s all see what I was envisioning for her floral party dress, shall we?

And her sweet red sandals, of course!

[name]Lyndsay[/name], I’m so glad you enjoyed them! Yes, the two would make a fine pair for sisters - so different, but similar in ways. I’m not really a writer, but I do certainly enjoy giving you descriptions! Project [name]Flower[/name] Fairies will have to wait until tomorrow morning, as I still have Spotlight’s names to do tonight. And, if I ever did a name book this way - it would be the largest name book ever! Ha!
[name]Lemon[/name]
I love both [name]Marigold[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name]! They’ve both been on my list for a while. [name]Magnolia[/name] is the star character in Showboat a musical I adore! ‘Can’t help lovin dat man of mine’ [name]Ava[/name] [name]Gardner[/name], oh how I love you! And [name]Marigold[/name] is the name from a childhood book I loved called ‘Once Upon a [name]Marigold[/name]’
Ahh! I love that outfit! It is 100% something I would pick out for a little girl!
Yes, that book would be very long. But it could be like a coffee table book, and you could just include really good names. If you write it, I’ll buy it! Haha. Ok, so maybe that’s a lot of work, but it would definitely make a fun blog.
Spotlight, your names are so very different in style and personality than those chosen by [name]Lyndsay[/name] - [name]Magnolia[/name] and [name]Marigold[/name]. This should be interesting!
NOTE: I will only provide a description on your first names. These will be shorter considering you have four names. Enjoy, ma’am!
[name]GWENDOLYN[/name] ([name]CAPRI[/name]): [name]Gwendolyn[/name] is regal and intelligent, stubborn and brave. [name]Gwendolyn[/name], with her flowing brunette hair tied back in a green ribbon, sits comfortably in the corner of her favorite couch, squinting her eyes as the light from the window hits the page of her book, “[name]Alice[/name]'s Adventures in Wonderland.” As the little girl is caught up in this world of make-believe and intrigue, she hears a squeak in the floor. Her little sister comes bounding into the room, uninvited, testing [name]Gwendolyn[/name]'s patience. The once quiet and serene [name]Gwendolyn[/name] hops off the couch, her eyes gray with anger and annoyance, and marches over to her sister. “[name]Celia[/name],” she says, “what ARE you doing in here disturbing me? Can’t you see I’m reading?” The smaller girl backs away, frightened and humiliated, and you can see the change in [name]Gwendolyn[/name]'s eyes as her face, once harsh, becomes soft. Her porcelain skin turns rosy as she cracks a small smile, engulfing her little sister in a hug and whispering comforting thoughts in her ear. [name]Gwendolyn[/name] has a testy personality, as she is easily brought to temper, yet her genuine warm heart and concern for others make her a truly lovely young woman, with wit and intelligence to boot.
And, for your viewing pleasure, an old-fashioned [name]Gwendolyn[/name], the little princess in blue, with her sister, [name]Celia[/name]:

[name]EVANGELINE[/name] ([name]EDEN[/name]): [name]Evangeline[/name] is a dreamer, a bright, carefree girl with her head in the clouds. [name]Evangeline[/name], dressed in a sweet summer dress, lays her head down in the grass on a warm [name]June[/name] afternoon. Her hair, a warm brown, pools around her face as she looks up into the brilliant blue sky, her brown eyes closing slightly at the sight. Whimsical and imaginative, the intelligent [name]Evangeline[/name] points up into the sky, shouting out to her nearby friend when she sees a cloud go by, “Look! It’s in the shape of a rabbit!” Her rosy face breaks out into a cheeky grin as her melodic giggle comes out, bringing smiles to the faces of passersby in the quiet park.
A picture of a young [name]Evangeline[/name] (in my eyes), for your enjoyment.

[name]IRELAND[/name] ([name]ELIZABETH[/name]): [name]Ireland[/name] is calm and inquisitive, shy and reserved. Sitting alone in her classroom, little [name]Ireland[/name], with her dirty blond hair swept up into a ponytail, quietly observes the class’ pet gerbil, [name]Harvey[/name]. In her own world, independent and serene, she talks to her friend. “[name]Harvey[/name],” she says, “One day. I’m going to get a pet just like you! And I’ll name him [name]Dewey[/name]. And we’ll be best friends…” A sad smile graces her tan face, and her hazel eyes close quickly as the rest of the class enters the room once more. [name]Ireland[/name] quickly pats [name]Harvey[/name] on the head, giving him a knowing wink before skipping back to her seat, a silent smile on her sweet face.
This is about what [name]Ireland[/name] might look like:

[name]LYRA[/name] ([name]THISBE[/name]) - [name]Lyra[/name] is quiet and still, inquisitive and caring. With her soft blond hair cut short and her blue eyes twinkling with joy, [name]Lyra[/name] is the picture of a happy, carefree child. Gentle and loving, [name]Lyra[/name] is a pleasure to be around for all who meet her. Twirling 'round the room in her brand new tutu, [name]Lyra[/name] is the epitome of a girl’s girl. Typically reserved and cautious, she has her moments of pure childhood, bursting out with loud giggles as she dizzily falls to the floor - kerplunk! Determined to keep going, the confident [name]Lyra[/name] picks herself up and begins spinning once more, her pale face lighting up with a cheeky grin. Once she is thoroughly worn out from all that spinning, [name]Lyra[/name] again drops to the floor, a peaceful smile gracing her face as her eyes droop closed and she passes into a comfortable sleep filled with cheery dreams…
And, a picture of [name]Lyra[/name] - in my eyes - for your viewing pleasure:

[name]Starlight[/name], I just wanted to say that [name]Lyra[/name] is my favorite - she is just so sweet! - but I’d love her even more if her name was [name]Lyra[/name] [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. I think [name]Lyra[/name]'s sister, if she comes from one of these names, could be either [name]Evangeline[/name] or [name]Ireland[/name], but [name]Eden[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] would be pretty, too. [name]Eden[/name] would be a personality mix of [name]Evangeline[/name] and [name]Ireland[/name], with a bit of the extra spunk of [name]Lyra[/name]…
[name]Lemon[/name]
PS Thanks to whoever took all of these lovely pictures!
[name]Lemon[/name], you’re a fast learner when it comes to posting pictures! Well done! And, what cute choices for your illustrations!
I agree with what’s already been said here, about how you really ought to do a blog thingy with these name descriptions of yours. They’re so creative! And positive!
Keep up the great work!
– [name]Nephele[/name]
Thanks, [name]Nephele[/name]! I’ll get on [name]Flower[/name] Fairies ASAP.
Oh, [name]Starlight[/name], your names are up! Enjoy!

I loved reading it! You should be a writer, or a poet, you are so very descriptive and capture your thoughts effortlessly! Brilliant!
Oh - it isn’t always effortless, but I really appreciate the compliment! You had a collection of gorgeous names. I’m falling more in love with [name]Lyra[/name] all the time…

Spotlight: There is a [name]Gwendolen[/name] in [name]George[/name] [name]Eliot[/name]'s [name]Daniel[/name] Deronda, one of the most interesting characters in literature, in my opinion.
I’m clearly in the minority here, but I really dislike [name]Tansy[/name]. It feels flimsy to me as a name; there’s just no strength behind it, and it reminds me of baby talk. [name]Tansy[/name] also reminds me a lot of both [name]Tawny[/name] and [name]Pansy[/name] (names that I also dislike).
