Thoughts on Tea Names

I was wondering about everyone’s opinions on these names:

Essiac
Woodruff
[name_u]Yarrow[/name_u]
Achillea
[name_f]Anise[/name_f]
Chamomile
Echinacea
Hibiscus
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
Noni
[name_f]Java[/name_f]
[name_u]Fennel[/name_u]
Nettle
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_u]Spruce[/name_u]

They’re all types of herbal or flavored tea from my second list of tea names. I would really like to hear everyone’s thoughts on these names, I personally think some of them are very wearable. Essiac for example is similar to [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] but the slight twist makes it more appealing to me. I think Nettle is cute for a girl and I think Chamomile nn Cham/[name_u]Cam[/name_u] or [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is very pretty, maybe as a middle name.

If anyone is interested in seeing the complete list you can find it here. Some of the names are a bit much for me but there are a handful that I like.

As first names, I could appreciate Essiac, [name_f]Anise[/name_f] and [name_u]Sage[/name_u]. However, I am MUCH more adventurous with middle names. I could appreciate pretty much all of them in the middle slot, though I am particularly fond of [name_f]Java[/name_f], Nettle and [name_u]Spruce[/name_u].

I actually adore Chamomile as a girls name, but as a guilty pleasure. [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_u]Spruce[/name_u], Essiac and [name_u]Yarrow[/name_u] all also seem pretty wearable to me.

I love [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], it is meaningful, and I would use it as a middle name (have it on the list, [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]). I would consider [name_u]Sage[/name_u] as a middle name for a girl and [name_u]Spruce[/name_u] as a middle name for a boy. Hibiscus flowers are gorgeous and I would consider it for a middle name also.

I don’t mind [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] or [name_u]Sage[/name_u] as middle names, but the rest are really not my style…

As firsts:
Essiac
Achillea
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_u]Spruce[/name_u]
Woodruff

As Middles:
[name_u]Yarrow[/name_u]
[name_f]Anise[/name_f]
Chamomile
Nettle

Ones I think are just too much for people:
Echinacea
Hibiscus
Noni
[name_f]Java[/name_f]
[name_u]Fennel[/name_u]

These are on my own list:

Chamomile - as middle name
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_u]Spruce[/name_u]

I also love Chai

I doubt we will every use an herbal word name as it just doesn’t translate well into the three languages we speak at home but…
I really love these:
[name_u]Yarrow[/name_u] - I keep suggesting it hoping it will catch on somewhere. Esp for a boy I think this would be a fabulous choice.
[name_f]Anise[/name_f]
Hibiscus
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_u]Spruce[/name_u] - I like the similarity to [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] on this on this one.
[name_u]Fennel[/name_u]

I like:
Essiac
Woodruff
Chamomile - check out hulu’s new “Deadbeat” there is a character named Chamomile White in it.
Nettle
[name_u]Sage[/name_u] - I love the sound my problem is that it is also the [name_m]German[/name_m] spelling for myth so I get very conflicting imagery from this name. (See what I meant above with we will probably never use a word name - this is why).

These sound like medicine to me:
Achillea
Echinacea

Other:
Noni - sounds too much like a little girls privates.
[name_f]Java[/name_f] - reminds me of computer code.

I think [name_f]Anise[/name_f] is the most ‘wearable’ right now (less common than [name_u]Sage[/name_u])-

Instead of Chamomile I think you could use [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] and get the same idea/effect.

Thank you everyone who shared their thoughts and opinions! It’s interesting to see all the different perceptions. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites from the ones I listed are Nettle, Chamomile, [name_u]Yarrow[/name_u], [name_f]Anise[/name_f] (though I do see how it could be a problem if people pronounced it wrong), [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_u]Fennel[/name_u] and [name_u]Sage[/name_u]. As for [name_f]Camellia[/name_f], I thought of that one too even though I didn’t include it! Very viable option

Achillea sounds to me like a female version of [name_m]Achilles[/name_m] but I can see how Echinacea could sound like medicine to some people! And [name_f]Java[/name_f] doesn’t make me think of the computer program until it’s mentioned, I actually thought of coffee hee hee

As for translations, to quote lexiem:

I know what you mean!! [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I mention the name [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], for example (which was one of my favorites a couple years ago), my beloved always reminds me of how ridiculous it sounds to him in Spanish because even though the first letter is an H instead of a J, it still is pronounced similarly to the word “juice” in Spanish ([name_m]Hugo[/name_m]/Jugo).

Also, I realized that for Hibiscus Ibis or [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] are nickname options I hadn’t thought of before, but it makes the name more appealing to me! (Probably only as a middle though)

Most of these aren’t my style, but some would be useable:

As first names: Essiac, Woodruff, [name_u]Yarrow[/name_u] (we had family friends with [name_u]Yarrow[/name_u] as a surname, so it feels like a surname-name to me), [name_f]Anise[/name_f], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], Noni, [name_u]Sage[/name_u]

Middles: Achillea, Hibiscus (since it’s a nature name), [name_u]Spruce[/name_u] (not my style at all, but maybe)

Not useable:
Echinacea (since a lot of people take it as a supplement, it feels too medical)
[name_f]Java[/name_f] (generally associated with coffee and computer programming)
Nettle (having encountered stinging nettles, “nettle” hold some very negative associations!)
[name_u]Fennel[/name_u] (a lot of people eat fennel in salads, etc., plus it sounds like funnel)

Unsure: Chamomile. I immediately think of tea when I hear it, so it seems like naming your kid “[name_m]Earl[/name_m] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]” or “English Breakfast”… but it is a pretty sound.

Other tea names:
[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]
[name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]

I adore [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]! If pressed, I’d also use [name_u]Sage[/name_u], but I don’t like any of the rest.
