My husband and I are expecting our first daughter. The only name we seem to agree on is [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]. What are general opinions ideas on the name? I think I’m struggling to know if it is special/distinctive enough.
Thanks in advance!

I adore [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]. She’s simple, sweet and sophisticated enough and she can stand alone as a FN. [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] just sounds warm and positive. It’s a no fuss name and very refreshing to hear. I also like [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f] NN [name_f]Tessa[/name_f].
I love it! I got a little dissuaded after learning that it sounds like the word for “to urinate” in Danish – but if you’re not Danish or planning to go to Denmark, I’d say go for it!
One of my very favorite names! I think it would work very well for a child or an adult, is unique without being weird, is feminine without being cutesy. An all around great, beautiful name, I think.
I love it. When I was deciding names for my DD, it was high on the list. It was the only name that I instantly smiled to say. It’s familiar without being too popular, it suits an adult and child. She could shorten to just the sassy [name_f]Tess[/name_f] later on. I’d use it in a heartbeat if it didn’t clash with the surname.
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is cute. I love it as a nickname for [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] or [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f].
I usually like longer names instead of using a nickname as a stand alone name. I don’t think [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] sounds like a nickname and I would have no problem using it in place of a longer name.
I think it’s pretty. I also like [name_f]Tess[/name_f].
@kelleita, lol as a [name_u]Dane[/name_u] I can say that it doesn’t really sound like the danish word for “to urinate”. I would never mess up the name and the verb, so don’t get discouraged.
To answer the question, I love [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]! It’s super cute, spunky but also classy
I don’t think the name is sophisticated, but it has a charm. I also don’t think it’s sassy at all unless you use [name_f]Tessie[/name_f] as a nn. I suppose I have a bias because I know an adult [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] and she hasn’t treated me fairly. It reminds me a bit of [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]. Hmmm… what about [name_f]Jessa[/name_f]? I like that name quite a lot!
I like [name_f]Tess[/name_f], but only really as a nickname for [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] or [name_f]Teresa[/name_f].
I agree with ^!
Not a fan…it beats [name_f]Theresa[/name_f], if she needs a nn, but [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is insubstantial to me, and [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] is low on my list, anyway.
I feel like it is a lacking in distinction. It’s cute, but kinda simple for my taste…
As previous posters have suggested, I like [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] much much more.
I think [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is cute! I used to love it back when I first started name hunting, but even as I’ve moved on to other names, I still think [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is sweet. And I like the option of [name_f]Tess[/name_f] as a nn.
Wish I heard it more often
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is very pretty! I like it a lot. I’ve been considering it personally, but I’m thinking if it gets added to my list this time around, it’ll be a MN (and very likely just [name_f]Tess[/name_f]). I would love to meet a little [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], though, and I think it’s a gorgeous name.
Good luck!
I really love [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]. I think it’s surprisingly striking for such a simple little name. Sometimes less is more, and I think [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] represents one of those times.
[name_u]Love[/name_u], love [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]. Sweet and spunky.
I love [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], it’s recognizable and easy to pronounce yet definitely distinctive. It sounds adventurous and beautiful to me, and of course [name_f]Tess[/name_f] is an adorable nickname.
