[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I have liked the name [name_m]Amias[/name_m] (pronounced Uh-my-us) for quite awhile. [name_u]Baby[/name_u] is due in 2 weeks and we are still trying to settle on the name. I like the name, but worry if it is too hard to pronounce or will be often misprounced. We like “Mias” for a nn but I also worry that sound too much like “My A**” and he would be made fun of. Maybe i dont need to worry about that. We love the meaning for the name also, which is “Loved” in latin.
We like more unique names for boys that have a “softer” sound to them, but still masculine. The other name we are considering is [name_m]Silas[/name_m], which is very similar sounding, but definitely more trendy.
The middle name would be [name_m]Jon[/name_m] either way.
I don’t think [name_m]Amias[/name_m] is a confusing name to remember how to pronounce at all once told. I think it’s very handsome, underused, and has such a beautiful meaning.
I never saw that teasing potential in the name but I think if kids want to tease they’ll find a way no matter what. You could just only use the nickname within the family/at home if you were very concerned about it.
Both [name_m]Silas[/name_m] and [name_m]Amias[/name_m] are handsome choices, though I would definitely choose [name_m]Amias[/name_m]
I love it. It’s one my my favourites. However, I pronounce it am-ee-us, so I don’t see any teasing potential. It’s a cute name for a boy (I even have a combo for it).
I think if you really like [name_m]Amias[/name_m], you should use it. The pronunciation shouldn’t be that big of a deal, and I didn’t even think of the possible teasing until you mentioned it. Both are nice names, but it sounds like your hearts are with [name_m]Amias[/name_m].
[name_m]Amias[/name_m] [name_m]Jon[/name_m] is gentle but strong, distinctive and interesting and charming too. [name_m]Silas[/name_m] is great too - mystical and sharp but approachable too.
Also, if you’re not too attached to “Mias” I think either [name_u]Ames[/name_u] or [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] could work well as a nickname for [name_m]Amias[/name_m]
I love [name_m]Amias[/name_m], he’s so soft and gentle sounding. [name_m]Amias[/name_m] [name_m]Jon[/name_m] is a very handsome combo too! I hadn’t thought of any teasing potential until you mentioned it, but if you’re worried about it you could keep Mias as an at home nn or try another nn; I like the suggestion of [name_u]Ames[/name_u], there’s also AJ going by his initials!
