We are pregnant with our first, a boy. One of the names my husband and I both agree on is [name_u]Davis[/name_u]. This is an old favorite of mine that I’m rediscovering. What are your thoughts? What categories would you put it in? What are your impressions and associations?
I like [name_u]Davis[/name_u] a lot! I have a very special memory of a [name_u]Davis[/name_u] who was very kind to me several years ago, so it holds incredibly special memories for me! Because of that I half-expect a [name_u]Davis[/name_u] to be Brazilian (“my” [name_u]Davis[/name_u] was); the other half of me expects a good ole southern boy. He feels equal parts nostalgia, chivalrous kindness, and homeyness. [name_u]Davis[/name_u] feels cozy and sweet and kind and wise.
I’m much more apt to use the classic [name_u]David[/name_u] or my beloved Portuguese [name_u]Davi[/name_u] (dah-VEE), but I’m always so happy when I come across a [name_u]Davis[/name_u]! It’s a really lovely and unexpected name.

I love [name_u]Davis[/name_u]! Surname, southern but really I just picture a cute little boy, very charming and energetic but also super sweet and loving. Great name!

I love it! It’s familiar but not weird and for me, more interesting than the classic [name_u]David[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] only concern is that if you are surrounded by nicknamers it may default to [name_m]Dave[/name_m] which I don’t like near as much as [name_u]Davis[/name_u] but if you only call him/refer to him as [name_u]Davis[/name_u] it should stick.
[name_u]Davis[/name_u] is cool - surnamey, rugged and charming - like a fresh spin on David/Dave, a bit more unique

I agree that it’s fresher than [name_u]David[/name_u] and I think it’s a solid name choice! It’s a strong name!
Associations-- a random character from Digimon but I’m like the only person in the universe who is ever going to remember that so don’t worry about it!
Impressions-- woodworking by candlelight, sweet smell of a sawdust mill

I think [name_u]Davis[/name_u] is outdoorsy, laid back and southern. Such a gorgeous name with imagery surrounding horses, gorgeous ranches, rusty desert landscapes and cowboy boots. I think [name_u]Davis[/name_u] is so handsome.
