Thoughts on the name Elodie?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] trying to crowdsource some opinions. I feel like girl names are more difficult for me to find that I like. I really like the nickname ‘’[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]’’ and out of all the options, [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] stands out to me.

Also, how do you feel about [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] (as a middle name)?

Thanks!

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is one of my favourite names. The sound and rhythm of it is just lovely!

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] is sweet! I think the sounds work nicely together

I love [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], I think it’s very pretty and unusual between all the [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]'s now. I also love [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as a nickname for it! [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] is beautiful.

I find [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] beautifully melodic. I would not want to shorten it as it has such a lovely cadence! I know an [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] whose first language is [name_m]French[/name_m] and people struggle to say her name, usually saying ee-LODE-ee rather than [name_f]ELLE[/name_f]-oh-dee. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] is pretty, but I am a bit weary of the [name_u]Grey[/name_u]/[name_m]Greyson[/name_m]/[name_m]Grayson[/name_m] trend and wouldn’t use it unless it’s a family surname.

I think it’s so beautiful and I love the middle name [name_u]Grey[/name_u]! The only negative I see is that it kind of feels like an incomplete version of the name [name_f]Melody[/name_f] but I think if I met a little girl with this name I’d get over that thought real quick. I really think it’s just a sweet and charming name!

[name_u]Gray[/name_u]/[name_u]Grey[/name_u] feels overdone as a middle name. It’ll be dated to 2016-2017 in no time.

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is absolutely lovely though!

I love [name_u]Grey[/name_u]! I think it works well with [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and keeps it from sounding too frilly as it might have with a longer middle.

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is lovely. I know a little one - quite delightful! I sometimes like [name_u]Grey[/name_u] as a middle, however it feels like an opposite to [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] which is bright and sunny, so not quite right to me. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f].

I know 3 baby Ellies. It’s a really popular nickname for a bunch of names. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to consider that she might be 1 of 4 Ellies in her grade at school.

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is a very sweet name. It’s somewhat versatile in style, so that may be helpful for naming any possible future children. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] is cute.

I love [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], but I don’t like [name_u]Grey[/name_u]. [name_u]Grey[/name_u] seems lackluster next to [name_f]Elodie[/name_f].

Not a fan. It’s just a bit too frilly for me. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] is a cliché Nameberry combo. I agree that [name_u]Grey[/name_u] is becoming a “filler” middle name. Who knew Fifty Shades would have such an impact on name trends?

One of the prettiest names there is. I would choose something girlier than [name_u]Grey[/name_u] which I do like but not with [name_f]Elodie[/name_f].

I believe I answered your post on reddit already - unless there are two people considering [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Grey[/name_u], lol. I’ll reiterate what I said there. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is a gorgeous name, if you’re in the US it’s really uncommon. I don’t love [name_u]Grey[/name_u], it’s a bit too modern sounding for me. I think it will sound dated & will be very tied to this time period.

Well I appreciate the honesty!

Honestly I never would have made the connection to Fifty shades. Never tuned in myself, I know my fiancee has though, lol!

I actually never realised how common it was on Nameberry/Reddit, but I agree there’s a certain theme to names chosen on name boards compared to real life, which is sort of interesting to see. As to why I chose [name_u]Grey[/name_u], it’s sort of (hopefully not offensive!) a hippy/weird reasoning in my head that it paints a certain picture for me. Fall is my favourite time of year, and the word/name sort of reminds me of a clash of autumn colors plus the contrast of [name_u]Grey[/name_u] in my head to make it all pop.

Sorry for rambling! [name_m]Just[/name_m] cool to see what other people think when they see names.

I do like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and I think the combo [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] sounds nice in theory. It works, it really does. I don’t see her getting teased for her name or anything like that. For me, though, I just don’t care for [name_u]Grey[/name_u]. I will reiterate what others have said about it being trendy, filler, and lackluster paired with the cheerful and bright [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]. Speaking towards the first two points specifically, I know sooooooooo many girls (and boys) who have the first or middle name of [name_u]Grey[/name_u]/[name_u]Gray[/name_u], or some variation such as [name_m]Grayson[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] is a bit overdone, but maybe not where you’re at. The Fifty Shades thing definitely popped in my mind, even though I haven’t read/watched any of it. [name_u]Grey[/name_u]'s Anatomy also comes to mind.

That’s a fair opinion.

At least in my area, I’ve not noticed an abundance of the name, while after some research online and various forums I’ve noticed it’s a more popular choice for sure. I think people on here and Reddit tend to trend to more interesting “novel” type names where it sounds like the child’s name is a character in a book or something. ( I also prefer this, to be fair. At least compared to things like Jaxsyn, etc)

In my small town at least, I’ve come across more of the “Y” themed names that most people on here and Reddit dislike. I have heard of one [name_m]Greyson[/name_m] but that’s about it.

I love the name [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], one of my dearest friends growing up was named [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] (we nicknamed her Elo) but I grew up in [name_f]France[/name_f] where it is a lot more common.

I personally love the name [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]! I think it is an absolutely charming name and I really enjoy it with the middle name [name_u]Grey[/name_u].

That’s awesome!

Actually, my fiancee and her family are all french. Her family are from [name_m]Quebec[/name_m] originally, and they certainly sound the part.

She’s bilingual but doesn’t speak it as commonly as them, although our future child will definitely go that route as well. I’m not french ( my grandmother is, but we never retained any of that) but I’d like them to be able to speak both languages.

I actually didn’t realize that it was a [name_m]French[/name_m] originated name, but it’s cool that it would tie into our family history. And now that I picture her family say it, I can absolutely hear the [name_m]French[/name_m] origin.

Not a fan of [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]. First, many will be unsure how to pronounce it. Second, it just doesn’t look pretty when written.
