Thoughts on the name Emilio?

I was hoping for some honest opinions on the name [name]Emilio[/name]? Too girly, too much like [name]Emily[/name]? I am really loving it, but having reservations that it might cause too much teasing. I am thinking of using the nickname [name]Milo[/name], but don’t want to use [name]Milo[/name] as the first name. We are Puerto Rican/Portuguese background and our other son’s name is [name]Antonio[/name]. Middle name is going to be [name]Domingo[/name]. I am not overly concerned about the -o at the end of the first and middle names. (it is actually at the end of our last name too!) We are also considering [name]Diego[/name], but [name]Emilio[/name] is my favorite.

I like [name]Emilio[/name]! My first thought was that it reminds me of [name]Emilia[/name], but the nickname [name]Milo[/name] completely takes care of any feminine associations. I think it’s a wonderful name!

I like the name [name]Milo[/name] as a nickname. To me [name]Emilio[/name] is just ok. The very first thing I thought of when I saw it was [name]Emilio[/name] Estevez.

I like [name]Emilio[/name] (I also like [name]Emile[/name], if you were looking for a close alternative). I think it’s great with brother [name]Antonio[/name]. I also like [name]Diego[/name], but I just get a better feeling from [name]Emilio[/name]. I don’t think it’s too close to [name]Emily[/name] at all (whereas [name]Emile[/name] might be mispronounced as [name]Emily[/name]). I [name]LOVE[/name] the idea of callling him [name]Milo[/name]! I never would have thought of it. So cute! I love it.

I like [name]Emilio[/name] and why I didnt associate it with Mr. Estevez until i read this I dont think that is a bad association -AT ALL!

I love [name]Emilio[/name]! I think it is very masculine, probably because I used to have a very handsome teacher with this name, who went by [name]Lio[/name] (prn. the same as [name]Leo[/name]), I didn’t think of Estevez until someone pointed it out, and as shoshanah said, it’s not a bad association! So all in all, I think [name]Emilio[/name] is a great name!

I love [name]Emilio[/name]! I think it’s great with [name]Antonio[/name] as a sibset and I love [name]Milo[/name] as a nn! I don’t even mind the double -o ending for [name]Emilio[/name] [name]Domingo[/name]. I like it!

I recall noting that [name]Emil[/name] was a stereotypical villain name* (can’t recall from where), but [name]Emilio[/name] doesn’t have that baggage.

*And no, I don’t think that sort of thing should keep a name down; it’s probably only that way due to ethnic stereotyping.
