I usually ask my questions about names on Yahoo Answers, but some people are terribly rude over there without even answering the question I asked to begin with, so I’ve decided to ask you lovely people here - I know you’ll give honest opinions without being outright rude.
What do you think of the girls name [name]Evie[/name]?
I’ve loved it for a long time, and I’d love to name my first daughter [name]Evie[/name].
I’ve written down Mrs. [name]Evie[/name] _____ (and even searched it on Google) to make sure I like the look of it as a married woman’s name, and I do. I personally think it suits a child and adult, but I want other people’s opinions.
I don’t really like the names Eve or Eva, just Evie. I think it’s short and sweet, but still elegant.
So what do you think - nice name, or not? Suitable for an child and adult?
I love it and think it wears well at all ages. It’s a proper full name too but used more often as a nn, if youre interested some less common [name]Eve[/name] names are Evelie, Evelise, Evodie, [name]Evelia[/name], Evoline, [name]Eveline[/name], and Evaelle but I like it all by itself
Thank you - I was beginning to worry that no-one liked it as a full name. I’d like to give my daughter a name that I will not shorten. In this case, I love [name]Evie[/name], but I don’t want to name her something longer because I’d honestly never call her anything but [name]Evie[/name], if that makes sense.
I love [name]Evie[/name], but I do feel it would be harder to pull off as an adult in a sophisticated profession. I understand how you feel about not wanting to give her a full name if you’re just going to shorten it. I love [name]Evie[/name] as a nn for [name]Genevieve[/name].
If you don’t want to shorten a name down, then just name her [name]Evie[/name] like you want. [name]Just[/name] because I or anyone else doesn’t think it works on an adult, it doesn’t mean that your daughter won’t be strong enough to make it work.
I really like the name [name]Evie[/name], just [name]Evie[/name]. I actually know someone whose name is just [name]Evie[/name], and it fits her perfectly.
I don’t see a problem in naming your daughter just [name]Evie[/name], and I don’t think she’ll have any trouble in growing with the name. It’s a very traditional name, and has obvious roots with [name]Eve[/name], [name]Eva[/name], and [name]Evelyn[/name], names that have withstood the test of time.
I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Evie[/name].
My second daughter, 19mo, is called [name]Evie[/name]! I think its gorgeous & sweet but elegant too.
I would have happily called her just [name]Evie[/name] but dad wanted it to be officially short for something so I choose [name]Genevieve[/name]. But she is known, at this stage, only as [name]Evie[/name].
Her full name is [name]Evie[/name] ([name]Genevieve[/name]) [name]Harper[/name] [name]Esme[/name] Cook.
Good luck choosing your first borns name, its a tough but awesome task.
Thank you so much everyone (and sorry for the late reply). I’m glad that others think that it can stand on it’s own - I think it’s so lovely. I will go with your advice Dantea, and use the name that I do love. After all, I think I would regret it if I didn’t call her the one name I’ve loved for years, simply because I’m afraid of what others think.
I like the name, but as a NN rather than a full name. However, I do see your point about the fact that you know you’re going to shorten it, so why name her something different? It does work on an adult. I have a friend named [name]Evie[/name] and it suits her well. I never did ask her if that’s her whole name or if it’s short for something.
It’s a very sweet name, and you should absolutely use it! It makes me think of a sweet little girl who loves pink, flowers, dresses and laughing. I tend to think of it as a nn, but I wouldn’t question anyone if they said their name was [name]Evie[/name]. I may wonder what it was short for, but unless they or someone else brought it up, I highly doubt I would ever ask about it. I think it wears well on all ages, too. I can see a spunky teenager with the name, a college student, a mom, and an adorable little old lady.
I love this name as a nickname. I think it CAN work as an adult’s full first name, but it would be harder to pull off. I always worry about names that are more on the cutsie side and then having a tomboy. However, if you are absolutely sure you would prefer this over a less nickname-y name, then my advice is to go with it.
