What are your thoughts on the name [name_m]Franz[/name_m]? I personally love it and it has been my favorite boy name for a couple of years, due to a little student I had who was an amazing little boy. [name_m]Franz[/name_m] might just be my favorite variation of the name [name_u]Francis[/name_u] and to me sounds very elegant, international and vintage, although I feel it has a cool contemporary vibe.
I like [name_m]Franz[/name_m]. Its not a name that I have heard in a while, but I have good associations with it.
Yeah, it’s a hard name to come across, yet is heard of. There’s [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] the band… and the archduke.
I really like it and would love to hear of someone using it!
[name_m]Franz[/name_m] makes me think of a caricature of a [name_m]German[/name_m] guy. I wouldn’t ever use it.
I like it. The ‘z’ makes it a little bit more exciting, however much I love [name_u]Francis[/name_u].
[name_m]Franz[/name_m] and [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] are the names I would never use. I am sorry, but they feel like typical WWII fascists’ names to me, and it doesn’t help I know they are traditional [name_m]German[/name_m] names. [name_m]Franz[/name_m] also makes me think of [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m].
[name_u]Francis[/name_u] is so much better, in my eyes.
My thoughts as well.
Best left for a pet
I love it! Yet oddly, I don’t care for [name_u]Francis[/name_u] at all. [name_m]Franz[/name_m] is a million times better!
I like [name_m]Franz[/name_m]. It’s unexpected and the z makes it fun! It comes from the name Franziskus, a very old name, and as far as the [name_m]German[/name_m] caricature/WW2 thing goes, it seems to be gaining popularity again among new parents in Germany and it’s losing that feeling there. I don’t think of [name_u]Francis[/name_u] as an alternative to [name_m]Franz[/name_m]. To me they are really far away from each other and I don’t like [name_u]Francis[/name_u] at all. Obviously, there’ll always be differing opinions, but it’s a fine name.
I don’t care for [name_m]Franz[/name_m] as I see it as rather dated. I’m not big on [name_u]Francis[/name_u] either, though. I do like [name_m]Fritz[/name_m], however.
It’s quirky and becoming popular again. I suppose I’ve never seen one of those movies.
Amusing to hear that people think of this as a stereotypical [name_m]German[/name_m] name as I live in Germany and don’t know a single one. It is at number 128 for last year but maybe it is more popular down South?
It’s a stereotypical Bavarian name. I lived in Germany for 10 years (recently) and knew a really sweet little [name_m]Franz[/name_m]. It’s not truly popular, but has the feel of one of those old names that some parents would use today, in my opinion.
Thank you berries! [name_m]Franz[/name_m] is still very much the number one boy’s name for me. Any more opinions?
