Thoughts on the name Harper?

[name]Harper[/name] to me has many great meanings, firstly it refers to a harp that an angel plays and it is the name of the author of To Kill A Mockingbird ([name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name]).

I would choose this name for a girl, and her full name would be [name]Harper[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name].

When I tell friends about this name choice they often question it. Isn’t that a last name? Sounds like a boys name?
It is a last name but it is unisex and [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Beckham[/name]'s baby girl is named [name]Harper[/name] too.

I really do love this name, but I would like to get some other opinions on it. This is most certainly my top name for a girl I would have.

[name]Harper[/name] seems to be a very acceptable name for a girl, though it isn’t one of my personal favorites. I know of at least two little girl Harpers born in the past year or so. I also love the [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name] connection!

I think [name]Harper[/name] is a nice name. I like it about equally for a boy or a girl. [name]Rebecca[/name] grounds the name and gives it a nice vintage feel as a combination.

I think [name]Harper[/name] is cute and feisty…but overdone at the moment. Not only is the name for 3 celebrity babies right now…but it is also really popular with the rest of [name]America[/name]. [name]Even[/name] in [name]Canada[/name] (where I live), I’ve seen it done quite a few times.

I really love all the other names on your girls’ list: [name]Harper[/name], [name]Athena[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Lola[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Eloise[/name].

I just don’t feel like [name]Harper[/name] really fits, it’s a bit trendier. I could definitely see [name]Athena[/name] & [name]Phoebe[/name] as sisters or [name]Lola[/name], [name]Violet[/name], & [name]Eloise[/name], but [name]Harper[/name] doesn’t seem to work with the others.

I quite like [name]Harper[/name], for both genders. I think it is fine on a girl, rabidly popular, in fact. It’s quickly edging up on the top 10–it ranked number 24 last year. I can easily see it replacing [name]Madison[/name] for the unisex name for the 2010s in the top 10 in the US. [name]Harper[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] is lovely, though–sweet, and refreshing as far as [name]Harper[/name] combos go. As trendy as it gets, I think I’ll always like it. It has a wonderful, sweet, literary feel about it. I agree with the pp, though–it doesn’t really go with [name]Athena[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Lola[/name], [name]Violet[/name], or [name]Eloise[/name]. They’re all unmistakeably feminine, and much less trendy than [name]Harper[/name] is. Still, I love it as a name.

I think [name]Harper[/name] is a great name. Oddly, it is the last name of the current Canadian Prime Minister who has become rather unpopular. For that reason, it might be less popular in [name]Canada[/name] than the US!

I really don’t understand [name]Harper[/name]. The sound isn’t particularly pleasant and it isn’t feminine, yet it continues to rocket up the charts. [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name] doesn’t even go by [name]Harper[/name]; she goes by [name]Nelle[/name].

The harpy connection bothers me too.

I think [name]Harper[/name] is a great name! An interesting, charming name for a girl. It’s unusual but not too much so. It’s becoming more popular, but so what. I think it’s a very nice name!

A few years ago, [name]Harper[/name] [name]Renee[/name] was my absolute favorite name. But then [name]Harper[/name] started popping up everywhere, and it sort of lost its appeal. I like [name]Harper[/name], but I’m leaning towards it as a boys name in the middle.
If it’s your favorite name, then go for it. But be warned that it’s skyrocketing in popularity.

I think [name]Harper[/name] is really beautiful. I love it paired with [name]Rebecca[/name] too.
It’s one of those names that people will either love or hate. If you love it, go with it.

I love [name]Harper[/name]! It is very popular right now but for good reason.

I like [name]Harper[/name] but only for girls…

It sounds rather masculine so I prefer it on boys. It’s shot up for girls but I find it unattractive

I’ve never met a male named [name]Harper[/name]. Seems like a girl name to me. I guess I don’t really follow celebrity gossip, because I wouldn’t have made the [name]Beckham[/name] connection. The only [name]Harper[/name] I can think of besides [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name] is the best friend character on the tv show Wizards of [name]Waverly[/name] Place (no, I’m not a teenager, my niece used to watch that show).

I think it’s an okay name, just not really my style. [name]Harper[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] sounds nice.

Oh, and I wanted to add…
Someone said [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name] doesn’t even go by [name]Harper[/name], but the truth is that [name]Harper[/name] isn’t her first name. Her full name is [name]Nelle[/name] [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name]. I don’t know what her friends and family call her, but she obviously likes [name]Harper[/name] well enough to go by it professionally.

I think [name]Harper[/name] is a gorgeous name! I do however feel that is it becoming too popular (most likely due to the [name]Beckham[/name]'s).

I generally don’t like many names that fall in this category - with [name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Monroe[/name] being major exceptions. I did used to like [name]Harper[/name], but that has now faded to a slight dislike. However, if it’s your absolute favourite girls name, you shouldn’t worry what anyone else thinks.

I don’t like this name for girls, but I find this better for boys.

Sorry but I really dislike it.

Firstly the Harpy connection - and secondly it sounds to me like a person who is always harping on (incessantly whinging - not sure if it’s just Australian slang or worldwide) about something.
