Thoughts on the name Lucky?

I am thinking of using the name [name]Lucky[/name] for a future son… middle name will be [name]Rhys[/name]. What do you think? This name is very very special to me, and whenever my son asks me why we named him this, I will say “Because, we are so lucky to have you!” So, thoughts??

Adorable nickname but what about:
[name]Lucas[/name] “[name]Lucky[/name]” [name]Rhys[/name]
[name]Luca[/name] “[name]Lucky[/name]” [name]Rhys[/name]
[name]Louis[/name] “[name]Lucky[/name]” [name]Rhys[/name]

I love the name [name]Lucky[/name]. My first thought is that it should be a nickname for something else, like [name]Lucas[/name] or [name]Lucius[/name]. But then I thought about it and I do like it as a name in its own right, esp. with a more straightforward middle name like [name]Rhys[/name].

[name]Do[/name] you plan on having more kids? [name]Do[/name] you know how you would answer their question “Hey mom, don’t you feel lucky to have ME?”

I love it as a nickname, but not as a full name. I love [name]Lucas[/name] nn [name]Lucky[/name], that’s just divine. Or [name]Lucan[/name] because it flows better with [name]Rhys[/name].

Okay, this may be cute for a toddler, but it will be hell for a high school student. I teach high school students (and I have taught middle school students) and I would say NO, NO, NO to naming your child [name]Lucky[/name] as his first name. Can you see him as [name]Lucky[/name] [name]Jones[/name], attorney at law? Give him a real name and use this as a nn. The other problem I see is when you have your second child – wow. Talk about issues for sibling rivalry. The last problem I see is I immediately thought why would anyone name their son after [name]Lucky[/name] [name]Luciano[/name]. Maybe it’s because I’m from the [name]East[/name] that I made that connection, but I did.

So please reconsider a typical first name and then after your child is born, figure out if [name]Lucky[/name] still works as a nn.

I agree with several other posters. Unless you give other future children names like “Blessing” and “[name]Miracle[/name],” you’ll have a lot of explaining to do as to why their brother is the only one you’re “lucky” enough to have had. And while it does make an adorable toddler name, it doesn’t sound professional.

But I’m all for having fun with middle names. If the name is that meaningful to you, why not use it as a middle? Then he can go by [name]Lucky[/name] for as long as it feels appropriate, then choose to go by his first name if he so chooses. That way his name really will be [name]Lucky[/name], it will just be in the middle. This would also give you the chance to get just as creative with any future sibling middle names.

I agree with the others who said this is better as a nickname for [name]Luke[/name], [name]Lucas[/name], etc. I also think the meaning makes it a little different from virtue names. With names like [name]Hope[/name], [name]Faith[/name], etc. you can strive for those qualities. [name]Luck[/name] is sort of something that either happens or doesn’t. I have personally gone through a few years of life that felt decidedly un-lucky and, to be honest, the concept of luck really pissed me off. Maybe this is a weird and random reaction, though!

Honestly it still makes me think of the [name]Britney[/name] Spears song. And also, as a pp mentioned, of [name]Lucky[/name] [name]Luciano[/name].
As many other’s have said, if you’re planning to have any more children, I’d avoid this name because of rivalry in the future. Plus, while the concept is sweet, and of course you are lucky to have him, I think the novelty might wear off a bit as he gets older. I think its a great idea as a middle name, or a nickname.

[name]How[/name] about a name that means ‘lucky’ like [name]Felix[/name]?

I don’t think lucky is an appropriate name for a person. Cute name for a dog though .

I agree that it makes a GREAT nn, but not an acutal first name… it does not grow up well at all. and again with the sibbing thing. I like [name]Lucian[/name] nn [name]Lucky[/name]… [name]Lucian[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] sounds GREAT to me…

I love it as a nickname. I think it works past the toddler years though, I can imagine having an adult friend called [name]Lucky[/name]. Not too strange, I don’t think. But then, I watch [name]General[/name] Hospital and there is a main character named [name]Lucky[/name], his full name is [name]Lucas[/name], but everyone calls him [name]Lucky[/name] and it really doesn’t seem strange at all. Also, I wouldn’t worry about sibling rivalry. I don’t think future children will think you don’t feel lucky to have them, I would just give them names with positive meanings as well, like [name]Beatrix[/name] or [name]Felicity[/name], etc.

Nice name for a dog, not for a person, especially not for one that you want ever to be taken seriously. Definitely go for [name]Luke[/name] or [name]Lucas[/name].

I think [name]Lucky[/name] is cute, but it feels more like a pet name to me. I actually know a girl, in high school, who goes by [name]Lucky[/name], a nickname for [name]Lucy[/name]. It’s cute, but I admit it is hard to take seriously at her age.

My first thought was of the character [name]Lucky[/name] from 101 Dalmations.
