Ok so I’ve loved the name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] ever since I was a little girl. When we found out we were pregnant with we chose [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] for a girl and [name_m]Levi[/name_m] for a boy. We ended up having a [name_m]Levi[/name_m] now my husband is saying his parents and himself hate the name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] because his dad says everyone will call her [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] goosey…(his family always has dirty minds eye roll) any [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]’s out there ever actually had this problem? Or does anyone else out there associate the name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] with this phrase?
I’ve always wanted this name for my little girl and now we’re not agreeing on any other names
I think it’s a perfect name. It’s cute, strong and classic and is lovely at any age.
This is not to deter you from using it but I named our family dog [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] when I was a kiddo. Sometimes I called her [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] Goosey or [name_u]Luce[/name_u] Goose, but as a term of endearment. I can’t imagine it being a huge problem on a child though. [name_f]Do[/name_f] kids even know this phrase now? [name_m]How[/name_m] many people would actually say that to her? I highly doubt it will be an issue.
I like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]! It’s got a sweet and spunky feel to it. Regarding [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] Goosey, my mind never would have gone there if you hadn’t mentioned it, and I was regularly read [name_f]Henny[/name_f] [name_u]Penny[/name_u]/Chicken [name_m]Little[/name_m] when I was young. As for slang, I always understood loosey goosey to refer to being relaxed and casual, not specifically promiscuity. That being said, your daughter’s contemporaries aren’t likely to know either of these references, it’s only older generations who will even think of them. Not only that, but you could veto practically any name based on teasing potential if you try hard enough.
However, none of that matters if you’re husband is no longer loving the name. I’d chat with him to find out if he’s had a genuine change of heart, or if his opinion is largely being influenced by his parents. They’ve had
their turn naming a human, this time it isn’t up to them.
I love the name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]!!
I really like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (and it’s had a big surge in popularity in recent years), but my possibly unhelpful thought is that it doesn’t match [name_m]Levi[/name_m]. I see [name_m]Levi[/name_m] as a super cool name that would go with a [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] or [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] sister whereas [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] pairs with [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] in my mind…
I really like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and would ignore his parents’ comments. It’s a lovely, classic name, that will stand the test of time.
Are you sure about having matching initials for your son or daughter, I think it’s always good to think about whether you’d be happy to continue using ‘l’ names in the case of a 3rd or 4th child?
My daughter’s name is [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]. We agreed way before we got pregnant that [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] was the perfect name for our first daughter. The only downside I could think of was the phrase “loose” being used to describe a promiscuous woman… but after lots of consideration we decided that every name has some sort of downside. And that [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] had way too many reasons that it should be used to let one con deter us.
Fast forward to when my baby is about a year old… my husband’s whole family starts calling her “[name_m]Luc[/name_m]” as a nickname. My husband and I hated it as it sounded like “loose” to us and reminded us of our one reservation in selecting her name. Repeatedly we asked them to stop. After about 6 months of her constantly being called [name_m]Luc[/name_m] I vented about it on a name forum. Though everyone agreed that my in laws were being jerks not respecting our wishes, most people said they associate the term loose more with foot loose and fancy free than anything provocative. So, I decided to stop letting it bother me. Because when you think of loose to mean free spirited it’s actually very nice. And I figured if she grew up thinking of [name_m]Luc[/name_m]/loose as a positive then if someone tries to turn it dirty, she will realize that person is the one with the issue, not her.
She’s almost 4, I don’t remember the last time anyone called her [name_m]Luc[/name_m]. But my long story is to say: you define how a nickname is perceived. If you’re scared of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] Goosey being used as a form of mockery, make it a form of endearment so she never sees it this way. If your husband really does associate [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] Goosey and thinks that’s a slutty term, maybe you can’t change his mind. But if he wants to like the name, I hope that you can get him to realize every name has nicknames and associations and we as individuals decide how to interpret them.
Good luck.
I’m biased because I have a [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] - I think it’s absolutely an adorable name! We get lots of compliments on her name. Everyone has their own nickname for her
Agreed!! I told them that they are the only ones that would ever think that and if you actually associated that term with your daughter/granddaughter than that’s just sick 🤷”*♀”
[name_u]Love[/name_u] this name so much. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is such a great name-it has history, it’s spunky but sweet. Personally I love the nicknames [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] or [name_f]Lux[/name_f].
Would not worry one bit about any negative associations they may have with the name…especially since theirs is one that doesn’t even make sense.
[name_m]Levi[/name_m] strikes me as a biblical name but also a modern and edgy vibe. I think it matches very well with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (a saints name) which I think has a bit of an edge to it too.
Great choice!
Imo it’s boring and overused and I hate how it sounds. I prefer [name_f]Lola[/name_f].
I adore [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] has been on our short list for 10 years because my husband loves it and we kept having boys. I don’t think of Loosey Goosie as having a sexual connotation. It reminds me a bit of a sweet little baby [name_f]Mary[/name_f] I met and whose dad “lovingly” called her [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] quite contrary.
I absolutely love the name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]!! I think it’s so sweet and classy!
I love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].
I’ve heard of the term “loosey-goosey” before but I had to look it up to see what it meant. It doesn’t have a bad meaning.
I know a little [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] who is actually called Goose by her dad sometimes. The nickname stemmed from the [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] Goosey rhyme and eventually morphed into Goose. It’s so cute to hear him call her Goose. <3
