My boyfriend and I have got mixed reviews on the name [name_m]Marvin[/name_m]. We both find it unusual which is what we like, we’re not a fan off popular names but he says it sounds very old fashioned. Your opinions would be very much grateful<3
I really dislike it. I don’t like the way it sounds at all, it makes me think of Martians, and it feels dated, not vintage.
I actually really it! I know it’s not everybody’s taste but it truly does have its charms. It’s #559 in popularity so it’s relatively uncommon but people are using it. If your having reservations of the name I would suggest [name_m]Martin[/name_m] as an alternative.
I’m not a huge fan, honestly. I appreciate its unusual quality and old-fashioned sound, but I don’t care for it. I find the “arv” sound harsh and unappealing. I’ll echo @saintdollface’s suggestion of [name_m]Martin[/name_m]. It is similar, but I find this name more handsome and wearable.
I know a few Marvins, ages 23-ish to 53-ish to 73-ish. The name fits with several current trends: old man names, contains V, ends in N, so I think it is a good fits-in/stands-out name.
I do think [name_m]Marvin[/name_m] is a little dated, but with all the other vintage older man names, I don’t think many people will blink an eye. I do like pp suggestion of [name_m]Martin[/name_m] which is a little more vintage chic than [name_m]Marvin[/name_m].
Thanks to [name_m]How[/name_m] I Met Your Mother and baby [name_m]Marvin[/name_m], I actually like it a lot. It’s cute and uncommon but not unheard of…your little one will make it their own!
It’s a family name for me, but I would never use it. It feels way too old man and hick ish to me. But we have several generations of Marvins who didn’t really love it and went by other names, so I’m probably extra biased from hearing all about that haha.
I feel much the same as @shelaxis. I have an uncle [name_m]Marvin[/name_m], he belongs to the enormous, terribly-named imo and “hick-ish” side of my family tbh.
It’s a family name for us and, no, I don’t find it attractive. Sorry!
It makes me think immediately of [name_m]Marvin[/name_m] the Martian, but he was one of my favourite characters as a child, so I don’t know how many other people would think if that. I do however quite like it, and I think it’s much better than [name_m]Martin[/name_m].
[name_m]Marvin[/name_m] Waitforit [name_m]Erickson[/name_m] made this name gold for me! I don’t personally love the sound, but the perfect middle name and story could make it adorable. [name_u]Vinny[/name_u] would be really cute for a nickname.
it sounds really old, not in a good way. it also reminds me of [name_m]Marvin[/name_m] Nessin, a murderer
The only [name_m]Marvin[/name_m] I know is super friendly and outgoing! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps
I don’t mind it’s full form but the possibility of the nn [name_m]Marv[/name_m] makes my eye twitch unpleasantly.
