I have had a lightbulb moment, I want a grown up name that can be cute on a child…Nell as a formal name and [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] as a nickname…what are your thoughts?
Also, I prefer the spelling [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] but worry pronunciation would get confused, people might think this is [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]? Which spelling would you go for?
I think [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] is a really cute nickname! But I think [name_f]Nel[/name_f] isn’t quite right for a first name, it sounds too much like a nickname for me. The only suggestion for a long name for Nellie/Nel is [name_f]Melody[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though [name_f]Melody[/name_f] starts with an m I still think [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Nel[/name_f] could work. [name_u]Or[/name_u] you could go with [name_f]Mellie[/name_f] and [name_u]Mel[/name_u] be ause they are so similar! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helped!
[name_f]Nell[/name_f] is a great name! I would probably try to pronounce [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] as [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] and I do think you’d have spelling/pronunciation issues with other people as well, but that’s not a huge deal.
[name_f]Nell[/name_f] is one of my absolute favourites, even though I’m not sure I’d use it as it just doesn’t feel right for me and my family. But I love it for other people though!
I definitely prefer the spelling [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and I would wonder if someone used [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] whether they had done so because they wanted it to be pronounced [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. If it doesn’t bother you that you might have to (and often), it’s easily corrected I think.
I adore [name_f]Nell[/name_f] as a stand-alone name, it’s on my list. I prefer this spelling and do think [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] may get pronounced as [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]. Doesn’t make sense really if you think of the name [name_f]Elle[/name_f] but the point of difference in the spelling might lead people to think it’s because it’s pronounced differently to the standard [name_f]Nell[/name_f].
I love the name [name_f]Nell[/name_f], whether on its own or as a nickname for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. It’s just such an interesting name to me, somehow both sophisticated and quirky/cute. I personally prefer [name_f]Nell[/name_f] over [name_f]Nelle[/name_f], both aesthetically and because I think people will often call her [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] if you spell it [name_f]Nelle[/name_f].
[name_f]Nell[/name_f] is a lovely name! [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] is a cute nickname. I would use the [name_f]Nell[/name_f] spelling. I would pronounce [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] as nel-luh.
I love [name_f]Nell[/name_f]! And [name_f]Nelle[/name_f]. And [name_f]Nellie[/name_f].
Honestly, either spelling works. I doubt there would be any confusion about pronunciation with [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] – at least, not in an English-speaking country.
nell is a stunning name, and nellie is an adorable nickname! i think nelle could work, although it would take a little more effort to keep up. i would pronounce it correctly, though i can’t guarantee that everyone would.
I like [name_f]Nelle[/name_f]. Audibly, [name_f]Nell[/name_f] sounds very feminine to me, but visually it looks masculine and I think [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] is a good “fix” to that. I would pronounce [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] the same as the traditional spelling, and I think mispronunciation would really come down to people mistaking the name for [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] by glancing at it wrong.
I know two Nell’s (that’s both of their first names) so I think it works great. [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] is super sweet but I do think [name_f]Nelle[/name_f] may be pronounced Nell-e.
nellie was the first name i remember loving!! it’s so vintage and old fashion yet so adorable on a little girl. i’m not too fond of the name nell as a formal name though. i like eleanor more
