Thoughts on the name Orla?

I’ve always loved the name [name_f]Orla[/name_f], but my husband is worried about how similar it is to “oral.” What are your thoughts on it?

I think it’s pretty! It doesn’t sound too close to oral in my opinion.

I think it’s a very quirky name and could be fun! I think it only seems similar to “oral” when it is spelled out, but when said verbally I don’t really hear it connected as much!

I find it a little awkward to say (“or” and “la” don’t really follow each other well as syllables) and I do think it looks and sounds very close to “oral”

It’s always looked a little weird to me, I see how it reminds your husband of oral. Also, it strongly reminds me of [name_f]Rita[/name_f] [name_f]Ora[/name_f] so everytime I see it I first connect it to the celebrity and then to the word almost immediately after.

I would pick [name_f]Orly[/name_f] instead because of that reason. Same reason I wouldn’t pick [name_f]Coral[/name_f].

That didn’t cross my mind. I love [name_f]Orla[/name_f].

[name_f]Orla[/name_f] is bright, pretty and golden. I feel like it depends on where you are, but where I am (UK), it feels familiar enough that people would recognise it as a name and not like oral

[name_f]Orla[/name_f] is gorgeous!

I really like [name_f]Orla[/name_f] she’s bright, summery and feels happy. The meaning ‘golden princess’ is delightful. [name_f]Beautiful[/name_f] name which I do not associate with oral. I’m from the UK and live in an area with a large Irish/Irish travelling community so for me [name_f]Orla[/name_f] is very commonplace and recognisable.

[name_f]My[/name_f] niece has a daughter named [name_f]Orla[/name_f]. It doesn’t make me think of oral, it doesn’t even sound like that. It’s a lovely name.

It makes me think of Orca actually. What about [name_f]Orlanda[/name_f]? Nn could be [name_f]Orla[/name_f] or [name_f]Orly[/name_f].

I’m in the UK and it’s started getting popular so I’m really familiar with it and like it. If [name_f]Lana[/name_f] can be a usable name then so can [name_f]Orla[/name_f].

I really, really like it, love Gaelic names, it’s so pretty. I’d spell [name_f]Orlagh[/name_f] to get round this but I understand why some people would find that spelling less ‘pretty.’ However, I’m sure I remember reading that orla means vomit in [name_u]Irish[/name_u] so that would prevent me using as a first too. I’d still use in the middle position, where the [name_f]Orla[/name_f] spelling would also matter less to me.
