[name]Sylvester[/name] [name]Eugene[/name], to be specific.
I’ve been told that it reminds people of, either the cat ([name]Sylvester[/name] & Tweety), or the boxer ([name]Sylvester[/name] Stallone) - reasons why they wouldn’t choose it themselves. But, no one (on Y!A) has really said anything else about it and I would appreciate some more in-depth feedback…
I had a great uncle (grand-uncle?) named [name]Sylvester[/name], and I would use the name. I do think of the cat, but only briefly, and I’d never think you chose the name because of the cartoon. I love the combo of [name]Sylvester[/name] [name]Eugene[/name]! My great uncle was sometimes called “[name]Sy[/name]” (sounds like “sigh”) for short.
My aunt has a cat named [name]Sylvester[/name], so that was my immediate thought, but then I remembered I had a professor my freshman year whose FN was [name]Sylvester[/name], and I remember thinking how utterly cool it was on him. I think it’s a lot of name to wear, but I really do like it as a name.
I didn’t even think of the cat when I saw the name. I grew up near Boca Raton so I knew lots of old people (which is probably why I love “old lady/man” names) so [name]Sylvester[/name] is a fine name
I think [name]Sly[/name] is the coolest nn
I’ve also heard Syl as a nn but it makes me think of [name]Sylvia[/name]
I adore [name]Sylvester[/name]! I wish it was more my style, it’s so handsome and has such vintage charm. And I think, to give it a modern feel, [name]Silver[/name], [name]Sly[/name] and [name]Sy[/name] would be very “cool” nicknames. I’m thinking of putting a Syl- name on my list if I can find one that fits with my others well.
My first association was [name]Sue[/name] [name]Sylvester[/name] of Glee, btw, not Stallone or the cartoons.
I do think of the cat first, but I really like [name]Sylvester[/name]. I love the meaning, and I think the name has a really cool sound. I think [name]Sylvester[/name] [name]Eugene[/name] has a nice sound to it.
I really want to like this name, but [name]Sylvester[/name] [name]Eugene[/name] is a little too much clunk for me. Today, you’d have to be either [name]Sylvester[/name] Stallone or a musician to pull off the name [name]Sylvester[/name]. This is coming from someone with [name]Ernest[/name] on their short list.
[name]Sylvester[/name] is one of my favorite names.<3 I think it’s really awesome! I love it. I love its look, sound and all-around feel, and I think it ages well. Sylvester Eugene is very nice and handsome.
I definately thought of the cat, but its still a pretty cool name. I do wonder about possible nicknames though-they all sound feminine to me (sylvie, esther,…)
I like [name]Sylvester[/name]. It’s cool but I can see how it could be a lot for a small child to live with. I do think of the cat first. Then Stallone.
I don’t like the nn [name]Sly[/name]. [name]Sy[/name] is cool.
