Thoughts on the name Wilbur

[name_m]Just[/name_m] putting out some feelers on the boy’s name [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s cute? I don’t think it’s very popular now but I feel like old fashioned names are coming back in style, do you think this one could?

I actually have a friend who named her son this and, honestly, I don’t like it because there’s an automatic pig/swine association because of Charlotte’s [name_m]Web[/name_m].

Sorry  but imo this one is probably old-fashioned for good.

[name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] will always me of pigs/Charlotte’s [name_m]Web[/name_m] sorry. But otherwise it has a good sound.

When I think of [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m], I think of [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] Scoville, who performed a series of experiments on the spiciness of peppers. I could totally imagine it on a human being today!

I love [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] - cuddly, warm and clunky cool. It gives you the options of cool nickname ‘Bear’, classic ‘Will’, sweet ‘Billy’, and fun ‘Wilby’.

I don’t think it’s back quite yet for most people in the US, but I can definitely see it increasing in popularity over the next few decades. I do wonder if the Charlotte’s [name_m]Web[/name_m] connection will help or hurt its reputation. I’ve only seen it as a pet name in real life!

I absolutely love this name, it’s so gentle :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

not really a fan of it on a human, I think it would be a cute name for a pet rat though

I think of charlottes web which I do love . I have it on my list and it’s handsome but maybe more of a guilty pleasure name.

I love [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] so much- he’s on my shortlist! I do think of Charlotte’s [name_m]Web[/name_m], but for me that’s actually a sweet association instead of an “that’s a pigs name.” He feels gentle, literary, adorable, and I love his clunky sweetness!

I love the name [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] too, it’s on my list ! I do think of Charlotte’s web but I’m not sure how many little kids have seen that movie now or are familiar with the book, for them the association might be small.

If I were able to disconnect it from the pig, then I think I’d love it! I love [name_m]Wil[/name_m]- names, and [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] is particularly gentle sounding.

(Another association that hasn’t been mentioned yet is [name_m]William[/name_m] Wilberforce)

I’m not a fan because I automatically think of the pig from Charlotte’s [name_m]Web[/name_m]. Without that connection I think it’s an okay name, but I just can’t get “pig” out of my head when I read it.
