Thoughts on the Shortlist?

Hello folks!
I’m due next month and we’re waiting to meet the little one before naming her, but I’d love some input on our shortlist and am open to any suggestions to add to the list.

Here we go:

  • Linka (it’s a family name)

  • [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (nickname [name_f]Betty[/name_f]) - thoughts on that nickname? I don’t think it’s a stretch but my spouse needs convincing that others won’t balk at it. I’m also wondering if the name will be too popular in the next few years.

  • [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] (we’re partial to Scandinavian names because of our heritage).

I vote for [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. It’s super cute. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is cute, but I don’t like [name_f]Betty[/name_f]. Linka is nms.

I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]! I do think [name_f]Betty[/name_f] could work as a nn without shocking too many people, if any. :slight_smile:

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is fine, but I don’t really care for the sound of Linka, personally – maybe it would work better as a middle name? (I do think family names are important.)

I agree with poster above I like Beatrix nn Betty! And I’m neutral about Ingrid and not loving Linka. I think you should go for Beatrix!

Linka - I actually know a Linka, but I can’t say I’m crazy about the name.

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] nn [name_f]Betty[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]! The nickname works, I know a [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f] nn [name_f]Betty[/name_f], though it wouldn’t be my pick. I do like [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], though! Overall, this is my favourite.

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] - Great name, but may limit you to only Scandinavian names for future children if you’re concerned about how well sibling names go.

I love [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], my favourite of your list - such a smart, sophisticated name. I also love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and think [name_f]Betty[/name_f] works fine as a nickname. Linka is fine too, feels streamlined and European.

My vote goes to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. Such a sweet name. I prefer [name_f]Bea[/name_f] (or [name_f]Trix[/name_f] or Beattie even) to [name_f]Betty[/name_f] as a nickname for it but there’s no reason [name_f]Betty[/name_f] couldn’t work. Some others you may like:

Here are my thoughts:

Linka-I kind of like it. It’s different yet simple, has special significance to you, isn’t feminine w/out being frilly, & has a fun, smart spunky feeling.

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] nn [name_f]Betty[/name_f]-I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]! It’s really a lot like Linka in that different yet simple, girly yet not too fussy, & has a fun, smart & spunky sound. The nn [name_f]Betty[/name_f] is perfect. I don’t think that it’s a stretch at all. I also like [name_f]Bette[/name_f] or [name_f]Bess[/name_f]. [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] isn’t bad, but a little too cutesy in my opinion.

[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]-This isn’t my personal favorite, but I appreciate that it’s unique but also a good solid name. And I like that it honors your heritage.

My favourite is [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] it’s just pretty but not mad on [name_f]Betty[/name_f] for a nickname I would prefer [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] or [name_f]Bea[/name_f]. If [name_f]Betty[/name_f] the chosen nickname I would use [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] it’s a pretty choice and I just am not a fan of [name_f]Betty[/name_f]. With [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] I don’t think it will be as popular as [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] so if popularity is a major issue I would use [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]. Not keen on Linka maybe as a middle name.

So to conclude if your super worried about popularity & have to use [name_f]Betty[/name_f] as a nickname I would go with [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
