I’m trying to get settled my girls’ list settled, and I could use some opinions on several names. I have about 11 names set ([name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Arianne[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-[name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f], and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]), but I can’t seem to get my mind settled on the rest of these. WDYT of them? [name_f]Do[/name_f] they fit with my other favorites?
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] (a family name; prn. AY-lee)
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] (another family name; eh-[name_m]LEN[/name_m]-ee) “[name_f]Leni[/name_f]”
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] “[name_f]Leni[/name_f]/[name_f]Lena[/name_f]”
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]”
Obviously, [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] and [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] won’t both make the cut; [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]'s been a huge favorite of mine for years, but every now and then, another [name_f]Leni[/name_f] name will creep up on me. I really like [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] with some of my favorites ([name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], etc.!), but I truly adore everything about [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], even though she’s an odd-ball on my list. So I’m a bit curious to see which others prefer. I’m most interested in opinions of [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], and [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] at this point…
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] (a family name; prn. AY-lee) - I like the name as well as the spelling but said out loud it sounds so trendy and cutesy to me.
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] (another family name; eh-[name_m]LEN[/name_m]-ee) “[name_f]Leni[/name_f]” - I love this name but you already have [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. All five letters of [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] are contained in [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - I’m slowly growing to like this name but I’m not there yet. I wouldn’t have [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] as siblings so maybe [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] could be a middle name.
[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] “[name_f]Leni[/name_f]/[name_f]Lena[/name_f]” - I love [name_f]Leanora[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] a bit more but this is a gorgeous name.
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]” - I think this name works better in the middle spot.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Lenora[/name_f], and [name_u]Winter[/name_u] as a middle name.
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] is cute, but I prefer [name_f]Lenora[/name_f]. And [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f]… I also feel like it sounds so similar [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f], that I don’t know if it’s worth the trouble it will bring with spelling/pronunciation.
I really like your favorites list. On the second list I like [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] and [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is really great too, very different, and a brave choice. If you named her [name_u]Winter[/name_u] that would be pretty awesome. I don’t think I have the cajones!
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] - It’s beautiful, but I would be wary of practical issues. I would not personally like to have this name because you’d constantly be having to spell it and pronounce it for other people.
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] “[name_f]Leni[/name_f]” - Really pretty, this is my favourite from this list.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - Not my style, but nice enough.
[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] “[name_f]Leni[/name_f]/[name_f]Lena[/name_f]” - I just think of [name_f]Lenor[/name_f] fabric softener, but if I imagine hard that I’m not from the UK, then I think I like it.
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]” - Not my style at all
First off, your favourites list is wonderful. I love all the names on that list! From the others, my favourite is [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]. I have recently added this one to my list (which currently contains [name_m]WAY[/name_m] too many [name_f]El[/name_f]- names. Oops). I also love [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f], but I personally wouldn’t use it because most people here would have no idea how to pronounce it. [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]'s okay, though I don’t really understand all the hype about it. I prefer [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] or Azelie. I’m not a fan of [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] or [name_u]Winter[/name_u], even if their nicknames are lovely!
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] - I agree with the others that it has a trendy sound. Also, I can’t think of a single person I know who would spell or pronounce this correctly, but I don’t know where you’re from. Great mn though!
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] - for some reason this always sounds dusty to me, like 60-year-old couple [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] or [name_m]Lenny[/name_m] smooshed their names. Sorry, I know you love it. I know a teenager named [name_f]Elena[/name_f] who loves her name though, so ignore me What about [name_f]Elenore[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]?
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - pretty. Still reminds me of my grandma’s friends, but it’s nice enough.
[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] “[name_f]Leni[/name_f]/[name_f]Lena[/name_f]” - I really like this name a lot. It’s beautiful. I know a teen named [name_f]Lenore[/name_f] who is a very classy girl. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite on your list.
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]” - this is a name I really want to love! I adore [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and winter is my favorite season, but I think it’s a tad too out there for me, like [name_u]West[/name_u] or [name_u]November[/name_u]. I really want to meet one–hoping that would make it feel more real to me.
[name_f]My[/name_f] goodness how many young ladies are you planning on raisin’ up? [name_f]Hope[/name_f] your house has multiple bathrooms.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] are my favorites. I do prefer [name_f]Lenore[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonor[/name_f], but [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] is pretty too. [name_f]Leni[/name_f] really makes me think of [name_m]Lenny[/name_m], from Of Mice and Men.
[name_f]Emma[/name_f], ha! No, I always have many more favorites than I’ll actually use. (At least, I think.) I want to adopt oodles of little kids and have a few of my own, but I don’t think I’ll have more than 8, at the absolute freaky-most. Five is ideal for me. But I’m not bothered by having such a huge list because I figure my future husband will nix a good percentage of them, anyway.
I think you guys are probably right. I love [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] and have for years, and [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] has significance on several levels, but I feel like it’s just a bad idea up front. Much as I wish it weren’t. The more I look at [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] the more sure I am that I could never let any other [name_f]Leni[/name_f] name surpass it, so while I love [name_f]Lena[/name_f], I think [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] is out. At least, as a FN. I may find room for her as a MN somewhere. I’m still torn on [name_u]Winter[/name_u] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], though–I had definitively decided on [name_u]Winter[/name_u] “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]”, and I love that it sort of has ties to my sister’s name (and mine), and my family’s without-a-doubt favorite holiday ([name_u]Christmas[/name_u]!), but I’m not sure I want such a huge list in general, and I’m not sure I’m loving [name_u]Winter[/name_u] or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] enough in specific to truly use them? Ideally, I’d even like to get my list down to a more manageable 10, but I’m counting 12-13 as a pretty huge success right now, haha!
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] - I quite like [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f], but I don’t think it goes with your other favorites.
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] - NMS, and I don’t think it goes with your favorites. It makes me think of is [name_f]Leni[/name_f] Riefenstahl, so not a positive association.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - I love it, and think it goes very well with your list. A sibset of, say, [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] would be fantastic.
[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] - Also goes extremely well with your other names. I love its distinguished, haunting vibe.
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] - I like it, and nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is adorable. It sort of goes with your list–I can definitely see it as a mn for any of your other names. [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u], for example, is gorgeous.
I love [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] but I think with the nickname [name_f]Leni[/name_f], [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] would be better.
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] (a family name; prn. AY-lee)- I like this as a middle name, but as a first pronunciation would be difficult if you don’t live in an area where it is used at least occasionally.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]- I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]! I think it goes well with your other names as well.
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]”- [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is okay, and is nice enough, and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is fine. It’s nice, but I’m not excited about it.
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] (a family name; prn. AY-lee)- I understand it is a family name, and it has a beautiful sound, but I think a lot of people would be confused on how to pronounce it (not sure how popular it is near you). I’d choose a more phonetic spelling or use it as a middle.
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] (another family name; eh-[name_m]LEN[/name_m]-ee) “[name_f]Leni[/name_f]”- [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] is my name. So I have some strong feelings about it. [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] was a family for me too, and as beautiful as it sounds when pronounced correctly, it is pronounced incorrectly more often than not, and I get some awful pronunciations (my favorite being uh-LAN-ee). I love my name, but I often wish I had a simpler and easier to pronounce name. I never recommend my name to people.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]- I like it, but I don’t love it.
[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] “[name_f]Leni[/name_f]/[name_f]Lena[/name_f]”- I love [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] and love the nn [name_f]Lena[/name_f] (not so much [name_f]Leni[/name_f], but I love [name_f]Lena[/name_f]).
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]”- I like Winter, it has a cool but friendly sound, but I don’t think it needs a nn (and I’m not really a fan of Winnie).
