I love [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], and [name_f]Marina[/name_f]. I like the other 3 too, but not enough to use them myself.

Favorite to least favorite, with comments:

  1. Violet - I like this. It strikes me as a very fashionable name, but the downside of that is that it’s kind of trendy right now.
  2. Autumn - Feels slightly dated only because I haven’t met any young children with the name, but I still think it is beautiful and very appealing. It makes me picture lovely, changing leaves.
  3. Cosima - A little more unusual than I usually go for, but I do like it, and I don’t think it’s so strange that it’s unwearable.
  4. Emilia - This is beautiful, but the pronunciation is just so similar to Amelia that I think it would cause confusion.
  5. Luna - Part of me really likes this name. It reminds me of the moon and the character from Harry Potter. But for some reason I can’t quite get over the fact that the first syllable is “loon,” like a crazy person.
  6. Marina - This name doesn’t appeal to me much. It’s not awful or anything, I just don’t really like it and there’s no particular reason.

[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] - One of my all-time favorites. Cosmopolitan but unpretentious, unusual but easy to say, just the right balance of frills and strength.
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] - There’s something timeless about it, and it’s so likable and versatile, too.
[name_f]Marina[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] the ocean-y feel and the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]/Welsh singer associations. Another name that’s both girly and strong.
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] - Simple, quirky, and lovable.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - Has begun to feel a little overused, but it’s still pretty in an earthy Victorian way.
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - Pretty much neutral on this one. It’s very calm, a little common but with a nice sound.

  1. [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] - I picture a brunette short-haired girl, living in Europe, about 6 or 7. An adventurous type.

  2. [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - I love this name for a girl. I picture a brunette girl with a bun, cosy white sweaters and red maple leaves.

  3. [name_f]Luna[/name_f] - I never knew this was a real name until a month ago. My friend was always obsessed with it and I never thought it was an actually accepted name, and wen I did I fell in love with it. I imagine pinks and yellows.

  4. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] - A bit too popular to make my lists but I love it nonetheless, especially with the nickname [name_f]Lettie[/name_f].

  5. [name_f]Marina[/name_f] - I love this name! Its one of my best friends’ names too. She seems to hate it, but all of us love it.

  6. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] - Neutral.

Thanks everyone for your input… love the descriptions and adjectives associated with each. My only concern is the popularity of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (my soon-to-be DH really loves that name).

[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]–same, but this is a GP for me.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]–[name_u]LOVE[/name_u]!
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]–a little too obscure for me
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]–gorgeous, but I feel like people would always spell it [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], especially since [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is so common now
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]–very pretty

In order of preference:

  1. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] - Really like this spelling/variation and [name_f]Em[/name_f] is a cute nickname but would be slightly concerned about [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Emily[/name_f] confusion
  2. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] - Very pretty and classy but possibly a little ott
  3. [name_f]Marina[/name_f] - Unusual and pretty but does make me think of a literal marina a bit
  4. [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - Nice, I reckon you could definitely get some cute Nns out of it
  5. [name_f]Luna[/name_f] - Cute but a little hippyish/pet like to me
  6. [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] - Pretty but a little old ladyish imo

All nice choices though overall

[name_f]Luna[/name_f]: other than [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], it’s probably my least-favorite of the [name_f]Lu[/name_f]/[name_u]Lou[/name_u] names. Not that I dislike [name_f]Luna[/name_f]–I just like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Luella[/name_f], and even [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]/[name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] more. My sister LOVES [name_f]Luna[/name_f], which I’m content with. It’s not really my cup of tea, but it is very stylish and spunky, and I can see why she (and you!) likes it.
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]: I’ve been appreciating it (and some international translations, like the [name_m]French[/name_m] Automne and the Portuguese Outono) lately! I haven’t found the right combo for it yet, but it is lovely. I know probably a dozen people who have used (or are) [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], so it is a bit of a fad here (or just among the people I know?) so I wouldn’t use it up front, personally, but it is really nice.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]: [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]. She’s my fourth favorite girls’ name, but I’m really struggling to find a combo I actually love. I would love to have a [name_f]Violet[/name_f] someday.
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]: [name_f]ADORE[/name_f], and I love your [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]! She’s utter perfection. :wink: I’m rather giddy, now that I have my own [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] combo ([name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]), lol.
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]: [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] a lot. I love [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]'s The Comedy of Errors, and I love [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] in that, and I love how it sounds in Italian! She’s one of those I want to try to find a combo for in my list re-vamp, but I haven’t found one that sings yet. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]'s gorgeous. I love her more than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], and equally to (but different from!) [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]: I used to [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f]. I still like her a lot (and coming back around), but I like the [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_f]Marine[/name_f] a wee bit more.

I think I’d rank them [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], and [name_f]Luna[/name_f].

  1. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] - delicate and old-fashioned, rising in popularity for good reason!
  2. [name_f]Luna[/name_f] - so sweet. the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] association is a big plus
  3. [name_f]Marina[/name_f] - [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and the Diamonds. But also just beautiful. [name_m]New[/name_m] a girl with this name who went by [name_f]Mina[/name_f]
  4. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] - no associations really, just a pretty name
  5. [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - oo could be a good middle name for [name_f]Violet[/name_f]!
  6. [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] - I really like this, so different!

[name_f]Luna[/name_f]- I think of [name_f]Luna[/name_f] Lovegood ([name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]). A little wacky but a good soul. To me it is really a character name, but that is probably because I [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is [name_f]Luna[/name_f] in the way that [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is [name_f]Hermione[/name_f].
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]- reminds me of someone I know and doesn’t conjure positive feelings.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]- I think of [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and the Chocolate factory except I always think of [name_f]Veruca[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] so it’s not a positive association. Then I think about how [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] [name_u]Gardner[/name_u] named one of her daughters [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and for some reason I didn’t like that either (probably because BenAffleck was terrible as Batman). None of that makes sense though.
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]- I love this name because [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f] Maslany plays a character named [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] on Orphan [name_m]Black[/name_m] and I adore her and the character and the name. If I were cool and bold, I would name my daughter [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]. I also think it’s a beautiful middle name choice. Also if you don’t watch the show, I give it two enthusiastic thumbs up (it’s on BBC).
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]- Better than [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f] but still a little meh. There’s a super wealthy woman in my area named [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] who is head of a small dynasty of rich people so I also think of that.
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]-makes me think of mermaids and this girl I played soccer with in high school (she wasn’t a mermaid, she was just named [name_f]Marina[/name_f]).

[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] -Have been reading more on [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] lately eg. (wife of [name_m]Wagner[/name_m]) -always been on my top name list- pronouncing either [name_m]KOS[/name_m]- im- ah or Ka- SEEM- ah
[name_f]Marina[/name_f] -I love -its especially gentle to me and I associate with seemingly lovely members of the [name_u]Royal[/name_u] family.
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] is perennial. In any company I feel its distinctiveness and either glorious radiance of color or more fragile late autumn.
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] has heritage - its not my special favorite but I admire the name. I know 2 admirable young women both named for their Italian nonnos
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]- the sounds just don’t reflect the flower for me sadly and I know too many baby and adults Violets but I don’t dislike the name.
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] is nms.

collmcc1 - Orphan [name_m]Black[/name_m] is one of my favorite shows… that is how I fell in love with the name! I would pronounce it that way, too. I think it’s gorgeous (and her character adds to the appeal - love her!)

I also like [name_f]Marina[/name_f], which I haven’t heard in a long time. Very pretty.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] would be my third favourite. Old fashioned, but soft and sweet sounding.

[name_f]Luna[/name_f] - LOOOOOOVE. It’s one of my favorites right now, paired with [name_f]Grace[/name_f].
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - Super popular in girls my age. (I’m 16.) I know at least four.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - It shot up the popularity charts, but I love flower names.
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] - One of my favorites. My cat is named [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m], and when he passes, I will probably get another kitty and name her [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] or [name_f]Comet[/name_f] to honor him. He’s so sweet.
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] - I’m not sure how I feel about it, but the nickname options are really nice.
[name_f]Marina[/name_f] - Reminds me of [name_f]Marina[/name_f] Diamandis, who is one of my favorite singers. It’s very pretty. (from [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and the Diamonds.)
