Thoughts on These Unisex Names Please

[name]Hi[/name] guys, I’m new to Nameberry. I just wanted to ask what you all think of these two “unisex” names on boys. I’ve gotten mixed feelings from most of the people I’ve talked about them to, but where I’m from, these names aren’t really used on either gender, so popularity isn’t an issue with them. Anyway, the two names are [name]Addison[/name] and [name]Harper[/name]. I would really appreciate your opinion.

Thank you so much! -[name]Kylee[/name]

My thoughts are [name]Addison[/name] seems like a girls name, but I guess it because I have only met girls with this name. [name]Addy[/name] - nn - doesn’t really work for a boy?

[name]Harper[/name] I see as more masculine (although unisex, [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name] is a female). Good luck!

I loved [name]Addison[/name] as a boys name before I ever heard it as a girls name, unfortunately the girls won that particular battle :frowning:

[name]Harper[/name] is essentially a girls name in all respects to most people nowadays I think due to it’s popularity in girls, and celeb babies. But I personally see it as a more masculine name, and [name]Steven[/name] [name]Harper[/name] is my first thought when someone says [name]Harper[/name].

The only [name]Addison[/name] I ever knew was a guy - though he was a very feminine gay man, so take that as you’d like, haha. But I personally could see either of those on boys. There are so many unisex names that I, personally, see as feminine all the way - [name]Addison[/name] and [name]Harper[/name] aren’t on that list. They lean more masculine to me.

I hate to say it but to me both [name]Addison[/name] and [name]Harper[/name] are girl’s names.

I know two boys in their 20’s that are named [name]Addison[/name], and only one little girl so to me the name can pretty much go either way, but my preference is boy. For girls I prefer the more feminine yet similar [name]Anniston[/name]

To me [name]Harper[/name] is also very masculine, but it is so popular on girls that I wonder how a boy [name]Harper[/name] would feel… I think I would be too chicken to use it for a boy but I would name my son [name]Blair[/name] without a second thought, so maybe my judgement is clouded.

To me they are both girl names. [name]Addison[/name] especially is. And the only [name]Harper[/name] I know is a little girl. Sorry, girl is the first thing I think with both names.

[name]Addison[/name] is definitely a boys name to me, with the -son ending and all… It also means “[name]SON[/name] of [name]Adam[/name]”.

I don’t see [name]Harper[/name] as a name at all, I don’t know why. I only see it as a definitely of someone who harps.

Your boyfriend can probably tell you the ups and downs of being a guy with a unisex name, but even so [name]Addison[/name] is probably more popular for girls right now than [name]Shannon[/name] was when he was growing up. As a guy who grew up with a popular girl name I can tell you that it does cause confusion and some problems, but I can also say that you get over them and sometimes people think they are a bigger deal than they really are. The key question for me would be why those two names? [name]Do[/name] they have some meaning to you? If so, then you have a reason and can explain that to your son too. If you have no reason and chose what many consider them to be girl names then you have to explain that to him someday too.

They are both girls names…I can’t imagine either on a boy

[name]Addison[/name]- I would picture this more as a girls name, I’ve met a few female Addisons but no guy Addisons
[name]Harper[/name]- definitely can go either way, my first thought is [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name], but then I also think of a guy [name]Harper[/name] who goes to my school

I don’t like the name addison at all, and I’ve only ever heard it for a girl. harper is #2 on my list of potential girl names

[name]Addison[/name] and [name]Harper[/name] are usable on boys [name]IMO[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are on my list for boys. [name]Harper[/name] I also like for a girl but would use on a boy first.

I love them as boys names, both of them are gorgeous! I think [name]Harper[/name] [name]Addison[/name] is a great name and would work in the UK but definitely not in the US by the sound of it…

I think they sound better on girls.

My male cousin has [name]Harper[/name] as his mn, but it was his mother’s maiden name. I like both names, but they seem pretty feminine to me.
